Creating own ISRC codes
Where do you buy UPC bar codes?
I understand how to get UPC/EAN/ISRC codes. I don't understand where they should be registered after being obtained.

What is a UPC code in music?
A UPC (Universal Product Code) is a 12-digit barcode used to identify an entire music release — like an album, EP, or single — across all platforms and physical formats. It’s the digital equivalent of a barcode you’d find on a CD or vinyl, used by distributors, streaming platforms, and rights organizations to track sales and streams.
Where else can I find my UPC code?
If you released your music through a distributor like DistroKid, TuneCore, CD Baby, or AWAL, your UPC will appear in your release dashboard. You can also find it on databases like MusicBrainz or Discogs, especially for physical releases like CDs or vinyl.
Can independent artists get their own UPC codes?
No. Every unique release needs its own UPC. Reusing a UPC across different projects or editions can create reporting errors and royalty mismatches.

Hello everyone,
Can anyone explain how to create or embed ISRC codes for own songs before registering them with a music distributor? It seems like this would be a safer approach, given the many reports of scams involving DSPs.
Thank you, appreciated!
