I've never had the option to have UPS pickup a return for free, there was always a charge, it's why I just dropped them off at a UPS store instead. ( Granted I have only returned a handful of things over the years ) If something changed about that, I am unaware. Answer from ShooterMcGavin1980 on reddit.com

r/amazonprime on Reddit: Prime Returns suddenly charging $7.99 for UPS Pickup regardless of reason
May 25, 2022 -

I usually return via UPS pickup at my house since there aren't good dropoff options nearby. It is usually $0 for most reasons. Today, a couple different items I was returning showed $0 for all dropoff options but $7.99 for pickup options. I tested out all different reasons, and the cost didn't change based on reason. What's going on? Any way to get around this new charge?

I've shopped on Amazon for decades now and have returned hundreds of items. Usually the returns are easy and its a drop off at your local wholefoods or the UPS store with a label.

For the first time in seeing the only option as "UPS Pickup.

Meaning i have to coordinate with UPS on the phone, wait for a courier all day potentially, print additional documents and instructions. (Not like people have jobs or anything)

And no, you cannot drop off the item at the UPS store, it HAS to be picked up.

I wish I could know the return options ahead of time so I could NOT order that item.

Edit - I called UPS asking how the courier was going to get in touch with me. Was told that they were NOT. They are supposed to "buzz" my number. Im currently in a condo with a front desk, no numbers to buzz. Still no courier to be seen.

This type of return-only policy has to be done on purpose - to discourage people from returning expensive items which will immediately lose value and have to be restocked, yikes.

I bought a item off Amazon which was already in the same city as me, and i needed it returned back so i used the ups pickup feature off amazon which they say

Before UPS comes, securely pack your return. UPS will bring a prepaid label for your package. UPS will pick up your return package on the next business day. An adult must be present. If the first attempt fails, UPS will try again 2 more times on the next 2 business days.

However when ups came they never gave me no type of label or nothing they just came and too it, it has been 4 days now with no updates or tracking number the package was already in the same city as me when it was delivered to me so it should take 4 days for them to return it back. WHAT DO I DO?? Do i continue to wait and they will eventually give me a tracking number or do i start searching in public.

It's been a total nightmare dealing with Amazon's CS, so hoping folks can help on here. Amazon only gave me a UPS pickup as my return option, and I live in an apartment when a pickup isn't possible. Few questions:

-Do I need to call UPS to set up a pickup? How do I let them know about the Amazon return label if Amazon doesn't give you a tracking number?

-If I don't leave the package but schedule the pickup, will the driver leave a return label?

I read through a couple reddit posts regarding this question, but i have so much anxiety and want to make sure I do this correctly lol. So since I selected free UPS pickup for my 1 return, I’m supposed to:

  1. Use a box with no type of shipping label attached to the outside. Just a plain sturdy box.

  2. Have the return item taped up in the box, with the QR code/return authorization page I printed INSIDE of the box, not affixed to the outside.

  3. Leave it on my porch and include a note or something that says “UPS Pickup” so the driver knows its the correct box to take. (I plan to be home, but I’m scared I wont hear if they knock)

Is that it? The driver will leave a receipt for me (or hand it to me), and they will have the shipping label that they need to place on the box? I’m sure you guys get these stupid questions a lot, so I apologize in advance. I googled it but a lot of results are from several years ago and I wanted accurate info so I can do this right and make the drivers life as easy as possible! Thanks...I appreciate everything UPS drivers do to help us get our packages where they need to go.

I'm a Prime member and I returned a jacket that was too large. I chose that reason in the return process and was given the option of a free UPS pickup, which I chose. I got an email confirmation of the amount I would be refunded. Next day UPS comes to pick it up and later on I'm notified that my refund has been issued, but it's for $6 less than I should've gotten. I call Amazon and they keep saying that's how it works for a pick up. I explain that at no point was $6 mentioned in the return process, nor does the email confirmation's refund total match what I got. The rep contacts a supervisor who keeps saying the same thing. They offer a $5 coupon, which I turn down because I just want to know why I'm being charged without notification. After a hold, they finally decided to refund the $6, but still no explanation. So now on future orders I'll have to drop off at a UPS location to avoid the charge.

I'm confused by some return options on 2 items. I usually use the UPS store by my house, no issues.

One item has BOTH options for UPS store and one that says just UPS. No problem, chose UPS store.

The other item only has UPS and has a link to locations in a link. This link goes to the UPS website and it lists UPS stores as drop off locations.

Is there any distinction? or does UPS encompass all UPS Stores as well?

EXAMPLE:

"UPS Dropoff — box and label needed - Please package and label your return and bring it to any UPS drop off location of your choice. UPS offers a variety of drop off locations. You can find them on the UPS website Print the return shipping label anytime from Your Orders or your email."

Why is Amazon charging for pickup when they sent ...
May 27, 2024 - It's free when UPS delivers it. Free delivery, regardless of carrier, is part of their business model. Otherwise I would get it. Pickup in limited circumstances like for their error seems like it should be.

Ordered something then got looking at and decided it was not what I was wanting. Started a return usually they just say drop off at UPS or post office, schedule a pickup USPS, UPS, etc. This one is like no other option UPS pickup pickup will be tried 3 times in next 3 business days. And oh an adult has to be there UMM I am the only one and work all day now what? They don't even give you a legit label to print leaving it up the the UPS driver so I can't even take to any drop point. Nice they try to make simpler many maybe don't have printers but then have to make it so you have no other options. I'd rather spend $10 and pay to ship it back than try and have to jump through hoops.

r/UPS on Reddit: UPS Pickup for Amazon [without preprinted label], take steps to protect yourselves.

Recently, I've tried a return to Amazon and the only option available to me is for UPS to pick up from my house. The return instruction states that the UPS personnel will come with the prepaid label; however, when said person arrived to my door, they didn't have anything on them, no label to scan to show that someone from UPS had picked up my package, nor is there any other paper trail, and he was just going to take my package that's worth closed to $500 to walk away.

I was so surprised of how unprofessional it was, so I refused to give him the package as I won't have any proof that this person walked away with $500 worth of my items without any tracking. He said he will return the next day with a pre-printed label the NEXT day, and it has been 10 days from said claim. No UPS personnel ever came back.

Just called Amazon again to make a new return request, and unfortunately as the items are Apple Airpod Pros, the only option is to have UPS pick up. The CSR told me not to worry because they would have a pre-printed label and once scanned, they would know the items were picked up. The unfortunate part is... They did NOT come with any label and was just going to walk away with my package. It's only then that Amazon CSR advised me should the UPS personnel come again without any labels to scan or any paper trail (with this new return), call them immediately after the person pick the package up. I will do that, but I will also come out with my phone to record the exchange for proof that they did pick up the package.

Imagine this driver picking up 30 packages or more from various houses on their route, without any labels to track which is which, how would s/he remembers which packages belong to whom when s/he gets back to the center? Who's to say s/he doesn't have a designated drop off (at a house that's on their route and meet up with an accomplish) to hand off our unaccounted packages, then it will be a he says she says, their words against ours as to where the items may be? On their route during the day, it would still look like they were just driving along their route and didn't make any deviation, but ofc someone else can also happen to park across the street of a house where s/he is stopping to get those packages :) Not to claim that it is happening, but always a possibility.

There was a return I made to Kohls last November and Amazon claimed that I had only returned 1 of the 2 items when I was certain I had dropped off both. Make sure you take pictures of items you bring anywhere to return at the drop off location & the scanned label. IN between the transit from the drop off to the warehouse to be process, someone had "inadvertently" got items lost so much more frequently now. Be sure to protect your own assets. Not to be negative, but do take all precautions to protect yourself even if a seemingly saint had made promises. Lately, there has been so many lost items and amazon customer service/return has been shoddy at best.

r/UPS on Reddit: Amazon Return "UPS Pickup" Option Questions
May 14, 2022 -

Afternoon Y'all,

I made the Amazon return request this past Thursday(May the 12th), and the return confirmation stated that UPS would be by on the next business day to pickup the return(Friday the 13th in this case).

A driver never came by, though. I WFH and had even left a note on my door basically saying that the item was boxed up and ready to go and to please knock. Nada(I'm getting the vibe that no one came by period).

Is this normal? I.E, Amazon overpromises next business day pickup? Or did I fall through the crack somewhere?

Believe me, I'd much rather just take this return to the store. I'm fully capable of doing so, but Amazon isn't giving me that return option. I either wait for a driver, or pay to ship it back on my own out of pocket.

Hi, I hope I can get insight from UPS employees regarding Amazon returns. I have a package ($600 computer hardware) that I need to return, but I'm only given the option to have UPS pick-up. I've never had this limitation in my years as a Amazon customer and the Customer "service" have been no help to allowing me to drop it off at a nearby UPS store or warehouse.

I live on a busy main street with an open entry 15-20ft from the road and no one is home all week, so I'm not leaving my package all day for all to see and expose to the elements (South Floridian). Is there any way I can print and or receive a label and drop it at UPS?

* I was thinking the label driver's leave at the door after an attempt would be enough to take to a nearby UPS hub/store - correct?

Thanks in advanced for any guidance

r/amazonprime on Reddit: Paying for UPS pickup

Hey! I’m wondering if anyone can give me suggestions to deal with this issue.

Today I received an order from Amazon, but it contained the wrong item. I called Amazon, and they said I could return it, but I have to take it to a drop off. The issue is that I have mobility issues after breaking my leg, and I have a lot of trouble leaving my house. This is why I used Amazon. However, for the UPS pickup at my home, Amazon is saying I am required to pay $7.99.

After speaking with several CSRs, they just told me I am SOL, and in order to get a replacement for this $15 product I will have to return it and pay the $7.99 for UPS pickup even though it was their mistake.

Is there any way to escalate this issue? I just want the product that I ordered and paid for instead of the item they sent. Right now I don’t have anyone who can take my return to a drop off, and I really am not able to get out to make the drop off myself. I’m happy to return the item that has been shipped, I won’t use it, but I need a UPS pickup.

Any suggestions to escalate this decision would be helpful. Thanks for reading!
