I started out at 500 words for $30 bc that was my first gig given to me and I’ve stuck to it, quoting at around 6 cents a word. this is for blog posts and articles of course! If you are starting out with no portfolio it’s ok to quote under but you should bump up your rates after a while, which reminds me to do so bc I’ve been doing this for a year alr :(
gumtree linked in or just checking if certain websites are looking for freelance contributors. I did a lot of “cold-calling” to build my portfolio when I first started. If you can go into copywriting that’s also quite lucrative as you can charge more for a lesser word count which I’m doing rn too but those are hard to come by bc you need a lot of experience

It depends what your gameplay is. If you mean money wise, you'll make less freelancing but you can do it fairly often to compensate. Also you can stay at home and help raise kids or work on your skills easier. Regular jobs have rabbit holes, or they disappear for a while, so you won't be able to build skills as often but they will learn a little on the job. They offer more chances of growth and different paths to pursue as you keep working. Both can work with whatever life you want your Sim to have, it's just a matter of how much time you want to have building skills with them or how much money you want them to make. More on reddit.com

Get yourself involved in communities that relate to the work you want to do. They'll often have job threads or channels. I'm a game developer myself so can't give too relevant examples here, but in my freelance years I used to find most of my work on discord, specifically in groups like the official Godot server and the r/INAT discord server. I had push notifications turned on for all job channels so was usually one of the first to respond. The key here is being professional in your opening message. I've hired people in these places, you'd be surprised how bad people are at introducing themselves and their work ("Hi, I saw your job post", followed by nothing). Tell the potential client who you are, what your experience is, send a portfolio or demo reel, and if appropriate share some ideas you have for the job. I've also had some luck getting in touch with people on Reddit, but to a much lesser extent. More on reddit.com

Not sure if this is what you mean- Mercor- has writing gigs. Write prompts for AI models, I’m on a contract that pays $60/hr. It’s a hit or miss with experiences such as landing the contract and when I signed up it was an AI interview.
