I've downloaded it before and use it without trouble, but know my computer keeps saying it's unsafe. Is there a better youtube to mp3 downloader?
I downloaded installers for these 3 free audio converter (direct from the developers websites):
Freemake Audio Converter; MediaHuman Audio Converter ; and VSDC Free Audio Converter
All of the above have CandyOpen malware embedded in the installers.
Anyone know of a converter program that does NOT have CandyOpen in its installer. I specifically want to convert FLAC to MP3 (320 kbps)
=========== Edit: Thanks to all who contributed comments.
I settled on downloading the binary compiled build of FFMPEG found here.
https://www.gyan.dev/ffmpeg/builds/
And using this form of command in a batch file
ffmpeg -i input.flac -vn -ar 44100 -ac 2 -b:a 320k output.mp3
Is Freemake Audio Converter free?
Is Freemake Audio Converter safe?
Just a PSA - I had to do a quick video conversion. I've used Freemake in the past and been happy with it. During installation it tried to install 3 different programs that I did not want. I unchecked all the boxes for all those programs. And still, after it installed, I got some Pluto.tv crap installed that I never asked for. Who knows what else may have gotten installed that I haven't noticed yet. Running Malwarebytes right now. Avoid Freemake at all costs!

AIMP player has Audio Converter, free, many options, formats...
For example, you can shut down PC after conversion.
Audacity.
Tools > Macros... > mp3 Conversion > Apply Macro to > Files...
Convert one track first to set up the mp3 quality.
File > Import > Audio... > choose your track.
File > Export > Export as mp3.
I get best results with:
Bit Rate Mode - Variable Quality - 220-260 kbps (it will go higher than 260 if needed)
Variable Speed - Fast
Channel Mode - Stereo
I downloaded a few onto a school computer to check em out, but lo and behold they are just crammed full of adwares. Are there any legit converters or some kind of audio program out there?
Can anyone tell me what it means when this symbol comes up on a video when i'm trying to convert it? Is the program thinking it's music? And if so, how the hell do i fix it? I've tried researching it to no avail so far.
I understand, that technically there is no need to convert one lossless audio format into another but I like things tidy and my mobile player doesn't play every format...
So what programs can I use to convert wave, ape, alac etc. Into flac without any loss in quality?
Edt.: I'm using Windows. Currently I am using Free Audio Converter. But i was worried if it maybe harms the file?!?
I've been using Freemake Video Converter for some time. However, yesterday, after updating, he included watermarks in the videos. The only thing I used in the program was the possibility to cut excerpts from the video, join videos, rotate, and reduce the size and format of the video. Does anyone know a free alternative for my needs?
Don't waste time on this program. Claims to be free, but downloaded Version 4.1.12 and it worked for one day then no longer functioned. Uninstalled and reinstalled. So any claims that it is freeware (with fewer options) is nonsense.
Basically I want something with no bloat. I only really need to convert mp4 files to mp3. It's mostly long talks so I don't need fancy codecs or settings. I use VLC sometimes but I often need to convert 3-5 files in a row and their converter, AFAIK, can only do manual 1 at a time conversions.
Any suggestions? Just to underline again, has to be free.
I would like to study in this way.
What is the best website for it?
Greetings everyone.
I have apparently lost the thread link, but simply put:
I am attempting to put together a personal music streaming server, and since the most common guidelines state MP3 is best for streaming/space saving, it would appear that I am in need of software (preferably free) which can reliably handle converting large amounts of music files, in multiple formats like FLAC / MFA / AAC and etc..., while keeping the integrity of MetaData/Tags intact.
There was a thread from about 4 years ago which seemed to echo advice from other threads which were 6-10 years old about Audacity and dbPowerConvert.
Any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated.
[edit: For clarity, this music will also be portable at some point (my phone/external HD) and my library after gaining music from others is reaching approx 17 thousand songs in varying formats, now it's not just FLAC, but AAC, MFA and more which I need to convert in mass to mp3)]

So far, based off recommendations and PM's, my experiences have been:
FFMPEG | Command line / scripting did not agree with me, especially when trying to set it up for parent/child/child structures. Hit or miss on meta tag integrity. - Extreme patience and/or attention to detail required, output wasn't too bad, avg file about 10 meg for a 2.5 min song.
Audacity | Experience will vary. I personally found the process to be cumbersome, as you can tell it's not the programs top priority. >> Biggest being that it wouldn't accept parent/child/child folder as import or export structures, and having to import>export>choose codex> check meta tag option is checked was fairly simple, it didn't seem to like it. -- Output tended to be a bit on the larger side at 13-15 meg per 2.5 min song.
dBPowerAmp | Found this one fairly straight forward and easy to use. While I couldn't figure out how to confirm whether it would transfer meta tags, the two test files seemed to have them, and so I used it on a parent/child/child folder containing 5k songs. While it did overheat, until I turned off magnifier, it otherwise handled everything without so much as a hiccup. Free trial for 24 days and then you pay for it. Might be worth it in case I need it later -- Had the smallest file size, avg 9-11 meg for 2.5 min song..
All three programs seemed to cut instruments and vocals in roughly the same places, the difference was small enough I didn't mind.
For a new beginner or the average Joe who doesn't use it much, I'd have to say dBPowerAmp is the winner in this instance for batch / bulk conversions. After running through all 5k songs, it took the directory from 175Gig to 22.
I will admit, I haven't tried this with the other formats yet, but based on FLAC > mp3, this should be a breeze.
