I have the Fisher & Paykel. It replaced a 20 year old top mount Maytag that would probably outlive me. I got tired of it - and the other 20 year old appliances. I can't tell you what a pleasant surprise this refrigerator is. I picked it because it fit the space in my kitchen. My other choice, another top mount. I had no idea what to expect from Fisher & Paykel and felt I was taking a chance, having never heard of this company before. Well made. Refrigerator section has plenty of room. The freezer is a bit small, but that's ok for me, I live alone. I would add, ice is accessible by opening he freezer. Initially I wanted to access ice through the door, but realized after the fact, that the ice maker would take up valuable refrigerator space. I would also add, the water filter is externally mounted. Your apartment can’t be that tiny if you’re looking at 36” fridges! 30” or even 24” more common but unlikely to be French door. We have a 30” bottom freezer Liebherr which is great (no water dispenser though but why bother in NYC?) It sticks out a little bit I think they all do unless you want to spend $9k+ on fully integrated. More on reddit.com

We went from a french door fridge back to a freezer on the bottom single door on top model. The french door style in my opinion is not convenient. You always seem to find yourself opening both doors to find what you want and you have to open both to get access to the deli drawer. Single door on top is more convenient for us. (no water or ice in the door) The other thing about french door style is the "flapper" attached to the door. They can and do break and are not cheap to repair. Good luck with whatever you choose! Hi everyone!
Shopping around (online) for a new refrigerator. Our current one is a ca. 2014 Whirlpool. It's fine, but is probably nearing the end of its lifespan. We'll be retiring it to the garage or basement to use for overflow, especially for holiday entertaining. Eventually, we'll remodel the kitchen, so this new fridge will be part of a whole new set of appliances (they don't necessarily have to match). I am looking for stainless steel (fingerprint/scratch-resistant would be ideal), 36" wide (to fit in existing space), counter or regular depth, French door, preferably an additional fridge drawer*, and external water/ice dispenser (I know they're not "en vogue," but we have 3 small kids who are becoming more independent about getting their own water and it's very convenient for that). Budget is approx. $3K.
*If anyone here has one of these drawers, feel free to weigh in on whether it's actually useful/functional! Seemed like a great place to store all the kids' stuff--yogurt, cheese sticks, fruit, applesauce, etc--without them having to open the main doors.

Ive got the 2011-ish version of the whirlpool you selected. Its been great, also have kids and they love the exterior drawer for snacks. The kitchenaid is basically the same fridge with more features.
