How can i make real time background blur effect like this on after effects?
There is a method with noise and vector blur, but the lines it creates are too small for high resolution.
Thank you
Hey everyone,
I'm trying to remove mainly white backgrounds from website screenshots, turn them into transparency, and then apply a frosted glass effect.
Similar to this example:
I've tried a couple of methods so far, but I'm not fully satisfied with the results. I'd love to hear how you would approach this!
Methods I've tried:
-
Premiere Pro:
-
I stacked 3 duplicate layers on top of each other.
-
Top layer: Set to Multiply blending mode.
-
Middle layer: Normal blending with 20-50% opacity.
-
Bottom layer: Turned into an adjustment layer with Gaussian Blur applied.
-
This method is quick and gives a transparent glass effect, but I run into a few issues:
-
The colors in the top layer get desaturated and darkened. Even when I try to adjust the perceived gamma and saturation using Curves or other color correction tools, I still struggle to retrieve the original look. It's like the Multiply blending mode alters the color information too much, making it hard to get back that vibrancy and brightness.
-
The Multiply blending mode treats white as transparent, often causing unwanted transparency in some areas, which means more masking. Unfortunately, Premiere isn't the best for this.

-
Photoshop:
-
I used the Magic Wand tool to mask out the background and refined it with the Refine Edge brush.
-
This method offers more control and better results when removing the white background, but it's extremely slow and tedious for what I need.
-
My Question:
-
How would you approach this effect to get a high-quality frosted glass look on website screenshots without sacrificing too much time and control?
Any insights or tips would be greatly appreciated!
