I'm very happy with Dashflo if you're in Europe. They have a Forge server option, where you can just upload your server modpack as-is (from your own hard drive). If you also upload the world folder (or your singleplayer saves/your-world-name folder and rename it to world), you can reuse your existing world. This works for any host or modpack as long as it's Minecraft, though. Answer from Deleted User on reddit.com

r/feedthebeast on Reddit: Best FTB Server Host
July 8, 2022 -

Me and 2 friends want to play on our own FTB Server ( FTB Infinity evolved Reloaded) 200mods +

We all have good enough PC's to play it but when it comes to the server they seem to lag loads. I've tried Melon Cube, Pebble Host and Bisect Hosting. All of them seem to have issues with server lag at some point. I just want a smooth Server experience.

I have made sure the Location is in the UK which is where we are and the ping is around 29ms

I've made sure to get 6GB Ram Servers to cope as it suggests 5GB + for FTB infinity reloaded.

I'm not sure what else I can do. The server seems to glitch or stop or block lag for half a second every so often. Bisect Hosting is the best for lag so far and has only happened a handful of times.

Is their a host out their that doesn't oversell their hardware and are aware of FTB and how demanding it can be and servers are prepared for how intensive it can be?

Everything on the internet so far has been extremely unhelpful and I was hoping y’all could point me towards a guide that explains the entire process, including setting up the router portion

The easiest way is definitely to pay for a server host - I've seen some that even have one click modpack installation. However, seeing that you mentioned setting up the router, I'm guessing you're set on hosting it on your own machine. So, Find a modpack you want to play, or make your own and then export and send it to your friends. Curseforge has a built in option for this, and is probably the best choice of launcher/client. Copy the whole modpack folder, download the relevant version forge installer from forge's website and install the Forge server into the new folder. I am not familiar with Fabric server setup. You should remove any client-side only mods from the server's mods folder, however I've found that it's not always intuitive which mods fit into that category and it's rarely ever mentioned in the mod's description. In theory those mods being there shouldn't cause any issue, though I personally did have a server crash due to a clientside mod installed on it in an older version, so it might be something to look into if you're having issues. Launch the server. At this point, you can start the modded client, go to multiplayer and try to connect to it by writing "localhost" into the server address bar. This is a good way to see if everything's working before opening the server to others and to narrow down any issues. I'm fuzzy on the details here since I haven't hosted a server like this in a long time, but you might have to give it enough RAM for it to launch since the default value might be too low. Port forwarding / router setup. I'm skipping over this because it's mentioned in other comments, and also varies based on your router. Finally, set up your config files. If you want to use a custom terrain generation, check the mod's page to see how to enable it on a server. You should delete the "world" folder so the map generates again if you've made any terrain generation changes in the configs. Hope this helps

Any modpack server tutorial should work just fine. The router portion is going to be different depending on your router and your IP address, so most tutorials skip that part because it wouldn’t be applicable to much of the audience. You need to: Log into your router Open the port you intend to run the server on (defaults to 25565) Read your router’s manual for help with this. If you got your router through your ISP, your ISP’s website likely has the manual on their support website.

r/feedthebeast on Reddit: Easiest way to find quality FTB servers?
September 11, 2014 -

I've been playing FTB on my own for quite a while because I have no friends who play minecraft, but I would like to find a decent server so that I have some more interaction and cooperation in my games.

When I go to look for servers, I feel pretty overwhelmed and not sure how to tell if a server is of decent quality. Most seem to have less than 10 people on and generally are pretty quiet chat-wise.

So how would you recommend that I go about finding a server or do you have some that you'd recommend. I've really been enjoying magic craft 2 since I prefer less automation and more exploration.

heres some simple rules i follow to find a good community 1: Player count. Look for servers with a small number. Take caution with servers that claim they have like 40+ members daily. That or their maximum player count is obscenely higher then what their actual server total is. (Only exception to this rule. is any server run by OTE. Not a plug. just fact as they are run by some of the most professional staff in modded MC) 2: Before entering a server. Check for if they have a "ban list". Make sure that what they ban is ok with you. Because by banning certain items or blocks. Even if its on the premise of "bypasses protections" it can ruin "your" game play which by all rights and account is your choice. 3: Do some research on the community before entering it. A simple google search on the communities website. Will tell you if they are listed on voting sites or have been mentioned in various forums. Next case scenario is to join the communities forums and poke around a bit. Its all a matter of choice really. Some servers tend to leave everything alone with the standard "don't steal or grief" rule in place. However some kick it up a notch and try to provide a more challenging experience than usual. This could be things like anarchy pvp. where players compete with others using the technology or magic they are provided.

generally are pretty quiet chat-wise. Put EiraIRC into (TPPI, the reddit official pack, has it built in) and jump into #PlayTPPI. It feels like being on a server except in single player.

I've played so much modded MC over my life I have failed to appreciate that just like anything else it is temporary. When I came back this time I saw a barren wasteland of Modded MC servers. All the ones that seem to pull any reasonable player amounts are either Pixelmon (great but not what i'm looking for) or they are running quests/book progression based modpacks that I despise with every ounce of my soul. If I wanted to be railroaded I would go play any game other than MC. So i'm looking for any decently well populated FTB server (the newer the better modpack the better) that runs a kitchen sink style modpack and also has a player market of some form (not picky about the shop just anything where a player can sell items to other players). Not opposed in anyway to a white listed server but I play sporadically so I may or may not be a fit if your server has an extremely tight nit community. Thanks in Advance!

r/feedthebeast on Reddit: Best Minecraft server hosting for running FTB modpacks with friends?

Me and a small group (around 5 to 8 players) are planning to start a new world with an FTB modpack like Skies or Direwolf20. We’re looking for the best Minecraft server hosting option that can handle heavier mods without too much setup hassle. Lag and downtime are our biggest concerns. What kind of specs should we aim for, and are there any hosts people here have had good luck with?

Just a quick update: we ended up going with Nitrado for our modded Minecraft server. We're running one of the FTB packs and so far it's been solid. Setup was straightforward and performance has been smooth even with 6 to 7 of us online.

r/feedthebeast on Reddit: FTB server hardware
December 10, 2019 -

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to get a FTB server up for me and a few friends (<=5 users; probably Revelations or Ultimate Reloaded, suggestions welcome ;) ). I'd like to host it myself and am currently looking for the right hardware (if I'd leave my main gaming system running 24/7 I could get an online hoster for much less than the power costs). The setup and administration would be no problem, I've admin'd externally hosted MC servers for quite some years when I was still in university.

My idea were single board computers like the Odroid-N2 or Odroid-H2 as they are cheap, easy to setup, small, don't consume too much power and are usually quiet. For reference the H2 would have an Intel Celeron 2.5 Ghz quad core, 16Gb RAM and a 256Gb SSD for a total of 200€ (~220$) while the XU4 goes with an 1.8Ghz hexacore ARM CPU and 4Gb of RAM and an 128Gb SD for 130€ (140$). Does anyone have experience with this? I could only find unmodded Minecraft experiences with those online and my biggest concern would be the CPU limiting here.

Furthermore if someone has another idea for hardware I'd be open (my budget would be around 200€ (~220$)).

r/feedthebeast on Reddit: Cheap FTB server hosting service?

Hello

My friends and I were looking to play some FTB Revelation. However, our internet speed isn't fast enough for one of us to handle the hosting. We have the hardware but not the internet.

We were looking for a service to do it for us. We were looking for one of the cheaper options as our budget is a little bit on the tight side at the moment.

The ones I found capable of hosting revelation for 4 people ended up costing around $20+ a month. Can we find lower or is this it?
