Hello, I have few questions:) I am changing my Sony A7 system to a new. I need to decide which system will be better for me in long-time perspective, because I don’t want to change system again…

I consider buying Canon EOS R (limited budget - I have to buy lenses too) or Fujifilm XT-3/XT-4. I mostly shoot portraits and street, almost no video. I know that it’s APS-C vs full frame comparison, but I wonder is it really that much difference, many people of fuji say that it isn’t that much in terms of low light shooting. Especially when you don’t compare side by side. Autofocus - opinions are divided, now I don’t know the difference between these two, so please help me which is better. What I like in Fuji is that all of the dials are on top and film simulation recipes (people say that JPEGs straight out of the camera are very good, that they don’t need to edit that much in post-production). The retro vibe is nice too 🤪. What I like in Canon it’s the variety of cheap, good lenses (EF) and the second hand availability. The RF system is more futureproof than the fuji I think.

If the Canon wins I will have to buy lenses. I use the 85mm focal length mostly. I don’t have that much money to buy the RF 85 1.2L. So I was thinking about the EF lenses. Is it good idea to buy EF 85mm 1.4L IS USM with EF-RF adapter? I rejected the 1.2 because worse AF and image stabilization in 1.4 is welcomed. Or maybe is it better to buy EF 1.8 first, because it’s cheap and then collect more money to buy RF 85 1.2L?
I need your opinions!:)
The original EOS R is a few pegs down from the excellent AF of the later R3/5/6/7/10. I would say it might be closer than you think. The Fujis definitely have a much cooler vibe and user experience IMO but I would hesitate to call it better. That's preference more than anything. Fujis are pretty limited in the long fast telephoto area so if you ever get into sports, wildlife, or anything that needs a fast lens longer than 200mm you're kinda screwed.
Real question is why are you swapping off Sony? System swaps aren't exactly a spur-of-the-moment decision so what don't you like about the system you're shooting?
I mostly shoot portraits and street, almost no video.
. . . Photography isn’t my job, so I don’t earn money from photos and the camera won’t pay for itself. I am student so I can’t afford better body.
I'd consider downscaling more and getting a used Fuji X-T2 or X-T20.
I use the 85mm focal length mostly.
Get a Fuji 35mm f2 lens to start with, which is close to 50mm on a full-frame camera and is good for portraits and general-purpose shooting. When you save more money, a Fuji 56mm f1.2, which is an 85mm equivalent. Hot tip: there's a Viltrox 56mm f1.4 for Fuji that only costs $300.
I lean toward the X-T2 for the better specs and dual-card slots, which are good if you plan to get into paid work. If photography is strictly a hobby and you prefer portability, then I'd lean toward the X-T20.
If you do get the X-T20, I highly recommend watching the early videos of Omar Gonzalez. He started his YouTube channel after getting that camera and made a ton of tutorial videos about it.
Hope this helps.
Hello all, I’m a photographer of mediate skill, been taking pictures around 12-13 years, mostly portraits of friends, family, some occasional weddings here and there priced cheaply for friends. I began on a rebel t2i and eventually switched over to the Nikon D800, which I am not a fan of. The focus hasn’t been excellent, as well as washed out, orangey, or with difficult and aggravating skin tones.
I’m thinking of switching now, with a $2000 budget. I’m a big fan of the canon and fujifilm color systems. While I don’t do an extraordinary amount of video, I will occasionally film myself playing some piano pieces or capturing a scenic moment outside. I believe I really would enjoy street photography aspects of the Fuji but I’m concerned the lack of full frame would make a big difference in terms of photo quality.
Any advice would be appreciated.
i know these kind of questions are quite common on this sub, and i apologize if this exact question was asked here before.
assume both cameras and the necessary accessories cost the exact same. i will primarily use it for landscape photography/ street photography/ wedding photography and videography/ bit of astrophotography/ low light photography/ and long exposure photography.
iv shot quite a few cameras in the past (canon eos 90d, fujifilm xh2s, canon 50D m2). i love the vintage feel of the fujifilm cameras and the film simulations also tickle my fancy. the ibis on the xt4 combined with the better battery life make it an attractive choice.
but the RP does have a full frame sensor, and i do plan on doing quite a bit of low light photography and astrophotography.
this will be the first time im buying a camera with my own money and im really confused as to which one to get. will the full frame sensor be a considerable enough of an upgrade to the low light performance to justify the loss of ibis and a better battery life and general look of the xt4?
once again im sorry if this is not the right place to post this question. thank you for all the help
