Thread count is actually not the important factor. First off, most brands mislead people by using multi-ply construction. A 200TC with 4 ply will be advertised as 800TC. And it is true that most quality brands are in the 250-500 TC range, but it’s the quality of cotton that you need to look for. There is generally extra long staple, long staple, and short staple. The longer the better. Unfortunately you’d need to pay nearly 4x your budget to get into long staple by a quality brand. Polyester blends are definitely not ideal as you’ve found out, but for $65 there aren’t too many great alternatives. Unfortunately bedding is one of the industries where you need to pay to get good quality. Etsy is a marketplace with numerous sellers, but anyone selling bedding for $65 isn’t going to be delivering long staple/ELS cotton. If it’s at all possible, I’d highly suggest trying to save more and delay your new purchase. It’ll probably come out cheaper in the long run by not needing to replace it as quickly, but I understand not everyone can do that. Wish you luck! More on reddit.com
