November 21, 2022Position of full size (88 key) weighted keyboard / piano?
I have an 88 key directly behind my console. To the right of this is my "synth corner" which is where most my synths live. To the left of the 88 is another small stack of synths and vocoders. In my previous studio I tried to have everything close to the main DAW monitor. Now I have mirrored my main DAW monitor to 3 monitors (using an HDMI splitter) around the studio and have 3 wireless keyboards and mice attached to the DAW scattered around the room. I do the bulk of my DAW work at the console or a desk to the left of the console. Basic start/stop/rec/edit stuff I can use any of the monitors easily. I love the freedom this gives me since almost anywhere in the room I can see a DAW monitor. More on reddit.com

Ive been using a Yamaha kx88 for years as my master keyboard for years now. It’s old and heavy…but so am I. It’s been incredibly reliable and you could probably find a good one under 1K. More on reddit.com

You link is for a keyboard that's only semi weighted. Unfortunately to get into the real beginner pianos that are well discussed you're going to have to push the $500 range even used. I've been looking alot on Facebook marketplace in my area. -Roland fp-10 or fp-30x(same keybed different features). -Korg b2 or d1. -Kawaii es110. -Yamaha p45 or p125(Same keybed different features). These are going to be the most discussed beginner pianos by far. Anything else is looked at as something you may quickly grow out of. You might barely even find discussions about anything cheaper. It looks like just some random site but pianodreamers.com has lots of great info. I ended up deciding I wanted to go the vst route. Pianoteq, cfx lite, VI labs.. ect. So I could focus solely on the quality of the keybed. I found a great deal on a Yamaha p45 it's the cheapest on the list above. But I read somewhere it has bad midi velocity info (I really didn't get in-depth on the why) and that it's not that great as a vst controller. So eventually instead I found a good deal on a used fp10 so that was my final choice. They sell a combo version with stand at Costco that's called the Frp-1 More on reddit.com

I'm trying to get back into playing but I only have a 55 key cheap rinky dink keyboard and I want something a little nicer... preferably something with pedals but I understand for my price point that's asking a lot. I do definitely need 88 weighted keys and volume adjustment but that's all I "NEED" I could probably swing $500 but if there's anything out there that hits the $400 price point that would be awesome! TIA!
