I came across a bunch of these 1000 watt LEDs on amazon for around $150-$200 and it seems too good to be true. I've always heard that 1000 watt LEDs were way more expensive than HPS lights, but the 1000 watt HPS sysyems(in Canadian sheckles) are around $250-$300. Has the price dropped significantly or is this like the 100watt equivalent clf=13watts in reality?

Trust me from years of experience. Any of the cheap "burple" colored LED lights will fade out quickly and do not have NEARLY the results you can get with a quality COB setup. I use a few of these Vero29 LED's and the results are night and day compared to the older burple lights. https://www.ebay.com/itm/113363647601 Im getting 185 TRUE watts per light of quality spectrum from the wall and the penetration is as good if not better than HPS.

I can't really find a straight answer. I remember seeing videos on youtube of a guy testing leds and it didn't get nearly as much as the hps. I'm asking because I'm trying to see if I can use less watts and get the same yield as a hps or can led not compete with hps. I read that the light just doesn't penetrate the buds like a hps does

There's really no point in trying to figure this out. There's no reason to even consider running an HPS light. Just figure out how many square feet you need to properly light and pick an LED based on that.

With led you want about 30w per square foot. That is if you are using full spectrum led lights.
