July 2, 2024 - With its aromatic foliage and beautiful, blushing bracts, ‘Kent Beauty’ ornamental oregano looks beautiful when draping over hanging baskets. It’s a favorite pollinator plant and while not edible, its fragrance helps to keep pests away. Bright, direct sun promotes the most blooming for this plant. ‘Kent Beauty’ blooms with tiny, insignificant flowers surrounded by blushing pink bracts. The ideal conditions for ‘Kent Beauty’ are full, direct sunlight and a temperature range between 60 and 80°F (16-27°C). In hotter zones (zone 9 and above), high temperatures may lead to some wilting, but this is a tough plant and will bounce back after watering.

Hi guys,
I'm not sure if this is the right sub. My english isn't the best so I apologize. I live by Sacramento,CA and our summers are brutally hot and dry. I'm looking for nice looking plants that can handle full sun and doesn't need as much water. I'm in charge of landscaping our property but I have no idea what kind of plants to use without them dying.

California native plants are the best choice and there are many to choose from! Try visiting specialty nurseries like Elderberry nursery https://www.sacvalleycnps.org/nursery/ or Mother Natives in downtown Sacramento https://www.mothernatives.com/ There you could see the plants yourself and ask which will do well in your garden. Good beginner plants that don't need much water are coyote bush and blue oak trees. Sprinkle California poppy seeds in October or November before the first rain and you will have flowers in the spring just with rain water, no irrigation needed.

r/HawaiiGardening on Reddit: Recommendation for Hanging Plants for Full Sun?
September 24, 2023 -
I would like to have some hanging plants that blocks the mid-morning sun. This faces east. I thought potted Pothos might work, but I think it's just too much sun for them. These have been there for about 4 months and aren't doing so well. It gets full sun till about noon in the summer and till after 1pm in the winter.
Any recommendations? Thanks.

OP here - I can't edit the original post, but should mention that by "hanging" I mean the plants grow/hang downward (not just the pot hangs from a hook) similar to how Pothos will hang and create a veil-like wall to block the sun.

Pothos are able to tolerate a good amount of direct sunlight but in my opinion they grow weak when hanging as they are epiphytic climbers. If you place them in a large pot on the ground and allow them to climb then hang down they should do better. Another option would be Spanish moss a.k.a. Hinahina in Hawaii, provided they get a good soaking of water each day.
