I have to have surgery in San Fransisco in a couple weeks. We've never been so figured we'd make it a family trip at the beginning. We have 3 uninturrupted days (sat, sun, mon) and then some afternoon/evenings (tue, wed, fri) to explore. I need the MUST DO's with angsty hormonal teens that hate the sunlight 🤣.
We will have a rental car. The airbnb we are staying in is very close to the San Fran Zoo so that may be something we do on a half day or even something hubby takes the kids to if i'm down. On surgery day, Thursday, the fam is gonna drop me off and go to 6 flags. This is the only thing that is in stone. We want to do that Golden Gate Bridge, maybe Alcatraz, maybe the pier, maybe ride around on the trolly (is that still a thing?)
I want to avoid the rougher places if that's even possible. We were just in Vancouver and I was shocked at the amount of homelesness and blatant drug use. We watched 3 dudes cutting coke on the sidewalk next to their "buddy" whom I'm certain was dead. All from the city bus. On said bus was a young girl stoned out of her mind with poo smeared across her pants, muttering to herself about her father. It was absolutely heartbreaking and eyeopening too. We live in a quiet town on the east coast and have never seen anything like this.
My understanding (from new media) is that San Fran is worse but I just don't want to believe that. Tell me what to do and what not to do while we're in town.
