The Musee Mecanique and Ghiradelli are usually a hit with kids, and are both near where you'll be staying. The view from the top of Coit Tower is a great way to take in a view of the city and also nearby. If you visit the western portion of the city, the Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park is another thing kids tend to like. If you enjoy hiking, I recommend the Land's End Trail. It's only a few miles and should be doable for a ten-year-old. Do it west to east for the best views of the Golden Gate. Then lunch or dinner in the Richmond, were there is lots of great Asian food. Avoid the Tenderloin, Civic Center, and the portion of SOMA west of 4th street if you are with kids. These are the seedy areas and it's easy to wander into them if you aren't aware of them because they are near the touristy areas.
