Does anyone know where in Canada can I buy an authentic Shikibuton (Japanese futon) and tatami mat? Amazon sells knock offs, and all the companies in the US do not seem to ship to Canada. :(
*edit - I have found and decided, and posted below in response to a request for update. Search (Ctrl + F) "finally decided" for quick jump to reply. Will update again once I have the items. Thanks everyone for your help.

Here is where I ordered a set. I hope it’s legit! I ordered from here and love what I got! I’ve read the reviews and did my research and felt the website was honest. However, I live in America so being able to get anything that’s Japanese authentic can be kind of hard if you don’t know where to look.

If you don’t find a better option — myUS.com provides a US address that you have stuff shipped to, and then forwards it on. It increases the cost but sometimes there’s no other way :-(

I don't think anyone here has any more experience with traditional Japanese futons than you do, hence the inane, irrelevant comments. A google search for "Japanese Futon" yielded this guide to futon maintenance and this blog post espousing the virtues of futons that also had a link to where the blogger bought her futon.

I'm very late to this thread but Futon D'Or is from Quebec and makes all their shikibutons in Quebec. There are options with all natural materials and cooler materials and seems like a fairly solid choice. For future Redditors trolling for Canadian shikibutons. More on reddit.com
