Do comfortable futons…exist?
It's not the prettiest, but Ikea's Lycksele Lovas is very comfortable. It pulls out as a single piece mattress, so no awkard seams/gaps like you get on the type that fold the back down, and there are enough flat slats that you don't feel them through the mattress as with a lot of other futons of this type. I used it as my bed for 2 summers and had no complaints. It is also very compact, though actually folds out to about the size of a full sized mattress (about 1 inch wider, 1 inch shorter, but full sized sheets work fine). More on reddit.com

April 19, 2023Actually comfortable for long-term use futons?
I've only been sleeping on my maxyoyo 6" one for about a month straight and I will say if you're a side sleeper get something 6" if you don't want to adjust to being a back sleeper. I /can/ and feel myself slowly changing to a back sleeper but I've been a day 1 side sleeper. Sometimes if I sleep on my side wrong it can cause a 2/10 hip/shoulder pain on that side I slept on but usually my body shifts itself after I fall asleep onto my back and I sleep like a baby. Mine was around 150 dollars which is nice enough for me. I have sleep issues like disruptive sleepwalking and I usually wake up at least twice a night on my old mattress. Being on the floor proper I think helps with that psychologically (curious if there's any studies on sleep quality relative to height off the floor tbh) and my sleep quality feels like it's changed fairly substantially. I'm a lot happier with it and don't want to ever go back. Granted, I did transition from a cushy 4" pillow top so like, I don't think I was doing my body any favors previously. I didn't realize how bad a pillow top can be for myself. I yearn and crave for the firm mattress now lol More on reddit.com
