The official website (micdoodle8.com) was sold, you shouldn't download anything from there. You can get Galacticraft Legacy (which is Galacticraft + Galacticraft Planets + MicdoodleCore in one .jar file) for 1.12.2 from CurseForge or Modrinth, while the 1.7.10 version is only available on CF.
Galacticraft/Space modpacks
If you want something where the goal is getting to space, I can't recommend Create: Above & Beyond enough. It's got some occasional weirdness, but it's kind of a unique experience. More on reddit.com

Yeah, honestly i think ExtraPlanets is ass, definitely don't go with that one. There's also More Planets , which doesn't add as much overall as GS and EP, but it's MUCH higher quality overall, so maybe just have GS and then MP aswell. More on reddit.com

Planning to start with Galacticraft for the first time ever, on 1.12.2.
I plan on using Planet Progression regardless of my other addons, but it seems that almost all other addons add most of the same planets/moons.

Galaxy Space doesn't have the gas giants directly accessible, but that's better immersion anyway.

Extra Planets seems to almost add too much content. I hate the idea of progressing through 30 low-quality, made-up materials to get to new planets. CraftTweaker support could make up for all of that though. The vehicles have a nice aesthetic, and space suits and multi-biome support on planets appeal to me greatly.

4Spaceis the one I know the least about. According to the about page, it's only objects from our solar system.
I really need to hear some opinions about these addons from people who have actually used them. It seems like I have to decide between these 3 for 1.12.2.
EDIT: looks like 4Space is only 1.7. That makes the decision a little easier.
Also, feel free to recommend addons that I haven't mentioned.

I did a full playthrough of extra planets in 1.12 a year ago it was hell I promised to myself I would never do it again. I did it again in 1.7 last December I once again said I'm never doing it again. So anyways I finished another 1.12 playthrough a few weeks ago. It is extremely grindy and repetitive and has quite a few lighting glitches and all the bosses are reskins of each other and the 1.7 version felt very unpolished. I gave no experience with galaxy space
