They released a small teaser a few days ago, which was proceeded by a number of the editors on the site posting a picture that read "Continue?"
The site (dev.gameinformer.com) is completely broken at the moment, but what excellent news. I felt like there was a giant hole in the gaming industry since they went down. From the looks of it, the original staff is back, they have all of their archive, and they have a ton of articles that were done during the hiatus.
I always loved GI, even after I began shilling them for 12 years, and I'm pumped to see what they can do without some shitty corporation hamstringing them.

TL:DR - they talk about who's back (everyone), how they came back (Gunzilla Games bought them, they spun off into Game Informer Inc., and will operate independently and without interference), backdated content is on the site now (GotY 2024), as well as content/reviews from the last couple of months, magazine subscriptions will be coming back (more info later), stay tuned, and they're happy they're back.

I don’t know much about Game informers business, I think it was only in recent years that they allowed people to subscribe to the magazine online, instead of needing to visit a local game stop.
I don’t know if they were already doing this, but they should have made a app, so anybody who subscribed to get print issues, also got access to their archive of issues.

Game Informer's entire staff was fired by Gamestop without notice. According to Alex Van Aken , he backed up important files but that still leaves thousands of materials spanning years on the site that's inaccessible and unable to be backed up. Also speaking general people will manually have to request a refund if you purchased a subscription. Don't give the ghouls at Gamestop who did this to GI's staff any more money on that app.

I'm curious about the huge vault of physical games they had, plus merch. It sucked they didn't get to do a farewell magazine.

August 5, 2024 - After 33 years of publication, a total of 367 issues circulated. There is a torrent released last month, with a collection of 260 issues. Each and every conceivable Game Informer Magazines are available on archive dot org and torrents. Heck I just read the one from August 1991 as well.

So what are folks using these days? How do you stay in touch with what’s coming out and how good it’ll be etc? I’m almost 40 now so I generally only play games that get 9/10 or better, I guess I trusted GI to tell me what to play next 🤷♂️
Does everyone just use IGN or is there something I’m missing out on?

The reason I liked GI is that I was in touch with the personal tastes of the editors and could tell if a game would be a for me regardless of the overall score. With that gone MinnMax is the only outlet I vibe with, but they're almost exclusively a podcast and don't review games or cover them as broadly as I wished. With that said, I'd check to see if sites like IGN or Polygon has a stable staff of consistent writers that you can learn to trust.

October 5, 2021 - Pokemon merch on sale. Used games in the front on sale. I had to decline twice on a screen protector, carrying case, replacement plan on the system and games. I had to manually decline the game informer subscription on the payment pad after saying no already and it was still added.

June 17, 2024 - A lot of stuff that has been made obsolete in this industry as we get older. Some make complete sense good riddance, some are taking way too long to die. It's not very often things bow out peacefully anymore. Game Informer had it's time, hung on for a little bit longer than it needed to, for us, and deserves to rest.
