So I’m looking to buy a new controller from them with a warranty. My old one crapped out on me with stick drift, it isn’t bad but it’s there. I read a comment that GameStop will give you some type of credit even if it’s messed up.
Is that true and if so how much do they give?

We send them away to be scrapped for parts, essentially, and yes, we’ll give you a value for your controllers that need to be replaced. Bring it with you when you come to buy your new one and the credit for it can be applied to your purchase.

So over the course of owning a PS5 I’ve ran through about 6 controllers all suffering from minor to major stick drift.
Would GS accept them & what’s the average value per controller because ultimately I’d like to replace them with brand new/refurbished ones.

It’s prob not going to be more than $10 in store credit per controller, I can’t remember the exact value we offer, but if they’re otherwise going to be garbage may as well trade em in to GameStop towards a new one.

There was minor drift indicated. The software program displayed 2 crosshairs for each stick and red threshold indicators to show tolerances. CSR said I was no longer eligible for the 25% bump-up, and he would charge $12.50 refurbished fees. Anyway, I feel like GameStop might find some BS excuse to disqualify us the bump-ups. I’m going to try and trade in my “bad controller” with my PS5 non-slim and see what they say.

Both of my controllers have major stick drift even after taking them apart and cleaning them out. I was thinking about just buying new ones, but if I can trade them in I’d rather do that. If I can trade them as well, does it need to be in the box they came with and do they need to have been bought from GameStop originally? Thanks in advanced

trading them in gives you store credit. it wouldnt be a straight across swap. youd get like $5 store credit for white controllers and maybe $8 for other colors because they would be brought in as defective. you can definitely apply that to the new controller. id recommend getting the protection plan on it tho too if youre going through a lot of controllers. its like $15 for a year and if it gets drift you do just bring it back and swap it out for another brand new one without paying anything more.

Yes. Sell them back and put towards a working controller. You should also get a 1 year protection since you’re going through them fast

At my store we take them in, but we’d slap on a refurbishment fee. Typically that means $12 is taken from the trade in price. So if your controller is worth $28, it’s actually worth $16. If you’re a pro you’d get more money out of it, $29.40 reduced to $17.40. I’d say it’s worth it if your never going to use the controller again, might as well get some money out of it, but I’ve seen many customers upset they can’t just trade their shoddy, 4 year old, stick drifting, dented, base white controller for a brand new Volcanic Red.
