Mold and cru buildup unseen under the mats from moisture. If you never park cars in there I’d say not a big deal/ if you only park fair weather cars in. But if wet cars come in I’d worry about it. Racedeck is the first name in interlocking garage tile, but is expensive. Garage flooring LLC has a competitor product that is 20% cheaper and is worth using, I floored my old house's 2-car garage with their tiles. More on reddit.com

Did a ton of research on this not too long ago. It really depends on what your expectations are for the floor. Assuming you're in the US, any good coating by a reputable company is going to be $2k+ for a typical 2-car. Usually billed between $6-9/sqft depending on products used and warranty/etc. What I will say is this is definitely the best option for anyone that is doing proper work in their garage, as it will stand up to chemicals, welding etc. and usually carries around a 15 year warranty. Your more economical options are going to be DIY coatings, which just aren't likely to be as good unless you really take it seriously and buy commercial grade products. Going that route you're probably in the $1200 range these days after renting a grinder and such. No guarantees on the products, don't fool yourself thinking that the supplier will back any of their warranty claims, they NEVER do. Then you have things like RaceDeck and other removable tiles, grated or flat/solid. They can be just as expensive as coatings in some cases, BUT they can be found used CHEAP sometimes. A friend of mine scored a whole stack of Racedeck, enough for a 3-car garage, from a closing gym for $500. These are great for some cases but have their drawbacks. They can sometimes bind and come up if you turn your tires while stationary on them, things can get stuck underneath them (grated ones), they do not all stand up to chemicals or heat (some better than others), and they collect dirt/dust and occasionally need to be pulled up and out to clean the floor underneath. Definitely a great option for renters. I spent about $3,100 on a super nice coating for my last house and ended up selling the place the next year. So until I find my "forever" home I'll probably do some form of removable tile which can be moved/sold later. More on reddit.com
