I’m a corporate bi donkey who doesn’t do anything complicated and yet still creating content with stakeholders is even harder than it used to be. This is not because stakeholders aren’t technical( that hasn’t changed), but they just don’t have the systems and process knowledge that good stakeholders used to have anymore. I think because people just want to manage people and deal with soft bullshit, no one non technical knows anything anymore. This is my way of explaining two things Bi products need to become simpler - for the 80% of BI that is easy to do BI stacks are too complicated and the industry needs to adapt to this AI will not replace BI in any meaningful way because stakeholders and managers don’t know anything anymore These two things will be the new arms race in BI, as it’s the bulk of the business. SQL, Excel, tableau or pbi should be your base for a BI analyst. But, companies merge/confuse/mix and match bi analysts with analytics engineers/data engineers so if you want to separate yourself and pick up more DE related tools, it’s a great nice to have. That being said, I feel like SQL is the most important and being a damn near expert is worth the time learning. I see ppl saying yeah i know how to do a window function but they rarely know WHY, because it’s an easy skill to pick up but harder to master. More on reddit.com
