I spent half a day building an instant landing page on Gem Pages because it claims to be super fast.

I published it and put it through Google Page Insights, and it was dreadful—Performance Score 30 / speed index 6.8.

So I made a new one using one of their templates, made no changes, published, and did the same thing—super slow and poor performance score.

Is this just a shitty feature, or am I missing something?

Hi! Over the last year we've massively increased our conversion rates. From 0.76% in 2022 to 1.70% in 2023, which we're happy with as our AOV is around $140. We have about 15 products, each with 2-4 color variations.

The main reason for this increase came from using Gempages, learning proper CRO and custom building every product page. We used to have a free Shopify theme called Narrative which lacked any customisation options.

However, our page loading speed is horrible. Rated E by GT metrix. We think it might be due to Gempages slowing it down.

I had a look around Shopify theme store and noticed that some of the paid themes actually have decent amount of customisation option. One that stood out was Impulse.

Has anyone switched from Gempages (or any other page builder) to paid theme and managed to keep their CVR or even better, increase it due to better page load speeds?

We did $1m in 2023 and forecasting to do $5m in 2024, so this decision will play huge part in the business.
