Okay. You're looking for Top-Grain, Full Grain Leather. You do not want split grain or bonded. Top-Grain is literally the top of the skin of the animal. Split grain is the middle and bonded is where they take the scraps, shred it and glue it in to a sheet, essentially. Look for Aniline Dyed leathers. You'll have to choose if you want natural or corrected leathers. Also, protected or unprotected. Natural is like, do you want to see scars and such on the leather or do you want it corrected, smooth, no scars? You can get an uprotected leather that will age/patina over time. Protected basically have a wax finish over them and should not patina. Clean the leather every 6 months - with a good leather cleaner. As for recliners - $1800 is a decent price point. You can spend as much as you want - check out Hancock and Moore - you'd pay probably $2500-3000 for a recliner but they're awesome. The mechanism will likely be made by Leggett and Platt - it should have a lifetime warranty. The more you can customize a chair the more likely it will be made in the US. Not an expert but Ive owned crappy couches- i would say no. Only because its like: what do you want? The disposable couch you buy every 5 years that will peel if your apartment gets too hot, that dogs and cats can recreate on, kids, parties etc Or do you want the solid investment- dont want to see a moving company in this room for another 10 years and then i can give the thing to a relative that would be happy to take it? I feel like you cant be on the fence. Similar in the camping forum i see reqs for ultralight gear that will also be convenient and durable for car camping and its like, very seldom to find both, if not impossible. More on reddit.com
