Here is my situation. Brother in law is visting the states for a few months and I was thinking to just add him to Verizon family plan. We pay for ultimate unlimited and get it for $55/mo after discounts. There’s a free iPhone 17 deal going on right now and thought might as well get that for him and just add the line. As I go through check out, it seems he needs to bring a number to get this offer? This offer doesn’t work if I’m trying to get a new number.
Let me know if you guys have any suggestions on best to approach it. I was thinking to maybe order form Apple Store with carrier instead of directly from Verizon , but it doesn’t seem to recognize our discounted ultimate plan - it goes to $100/mo.

That's the only new line promo vz has for the moment. Theres also a trade deal on new lines/upgrades for IP17 where he can get $1100 off the IP17 series on unlimited Ultimate. If i remember the values correctly he could get: 600 on welcome 830 on plus 1100 on Ultimate Keep in mind the promo will stay as long as he has service for like 36 months on the account, cut the line off you'd get hit with the remaining retail balance of the phone since you'd be financing it.

you also mentioned that he would only be in the US for a few months. some of those deals require you to stay on a plan for 18/24 months and if you cancel the line you get charged full price for the phone. .
