May 8, 2024 - The B650I AX is Gigabyte's take on a budget-friendly AM5 motherboard in the ITX form factor, which also supports AMD's newest Zen 5 Ryzen 9000 series CPUs.
What are your recent experiences with GIGABYTE motherboards (especially B650I Aorus Ultra) and their BIOS, and would you recommend the B650I ?
Been running the B650i for a month now w/ 7800x3d. No issues. Update to the latest bios the day they come out. Updated to F6a about a hour ago (came out today). Been running EXPO at 6000mt/s and a PBO All Core Curve Optimizer of -30. Currently (last couple of days) I’ve be getting Ram timings tighter…. Currently at 6000mt/s @ CL30-38-38. All this to say the board does what it should. The most recent couple of bios versions have the SOC under control and can not be set above 1.3v. I have mine set to 1.26v which runs at 1.25v for some weird reason (via HWinfo)… sure it has something to do with my memory voltages. Running 2 nvme ssds stacked on the main board…. Bottom one runs a few degrees warmer than the top. Like i said, no issues (knock on wood) for the past month, latest bios appears stable… just works. More on reddit.com

this isn't the cheapest AM5 ITX... those are A620i from asrock or gigabyte. I'm using the Asrock A620i with a 9800x3d and it works like a charm. it's basically the same as the B650 with some limitations to overclock options, which are kinda pointless for a 9800x3d gaming-focused machine anyway. comparing Asrock to gigabyte, the Asrock has an extra m.2 slot plus an actual heatsink for the primary drive. for a 7600x, look into it. Hello,
I am planning to make a build with a 7800x3d and the Noctua NH-D12L as CPU Cooler. Recently, I had a look at GIGABYTE B650I Aorus Ultra, and compared to others ITX AM5 mobos, it has :
Good
Highest video output types : DP, HDMI, Usb-C (what is it for, though ?)
Can flash BIOS without CPU inserted
Weird
Backplate : prevents easy addition/removal of rear NVME when mobo is fixed on pc case compared to other AM5 ITX motherboards, and additional side effects list is unclear,
Bad
PCIE4 instead of PCIE5 for GPU (without consequences though, all GPUs barely go above PCIE3 ?)
Not available in Europe/France, would have to buy it at amazon.com ; consequences unclear regarding warranty
A streak of beta BIOS since the 7800x3d incident, until recently (May 17, 2023, F5), with unexpected side effects (sound issues)
Owners of GIGABYTE motherboards, especially the B650I, how would you rate your experience until now ? Is it worth going for it (and F5 BIOS), or should I find something else ?
I am asking this because I am trying to figure out a new machine. I hesitated between the B650I and the ASRock B650E PG ITX.
I am aware of an issue with AMD GPUs, where having two screens with different refresh rates can lead to an excessive workload of the GPU. As a workaround, I thought of using the iGPU of the CPU for the second screen.
But once in the past, one of my HDMI cable had issues, and would sometimes stop working a few milliseconds, long enough to make the screen think it has been briefly disconnected, making it go dark a few seconds. Since then, I am a bit puzzled about whether HDMI cables are fragile and do not handle being plugged in and unplugged repeatedly, or it was a bad, cheap one. Being able to use a DP cable would allow me to avoid further thinking about HDMI cables...
This is why I would like to hear your feedback first !

I've been having issues, but with a different motherboard. Basically the motherboard kills the RAM sticks that are installed on it. Happened twice, in both cases shortly (but not immediately) after updating BIOS. It's unclear if it's linked to the BIOS updates or simply defective motherboard. This is the cheapest itx mobo for amd (am5) anyone that has it what is ur experience?
I dosnt suppoert pci 5 but who cares about that? My only concern is 5 cpu vrm so not sure how it will handle 7600x cpu or x3d which can get hot at 105tdp. However mobo says it support them…
I feel its not worth spending 60 usd or more for other variant if i dont feel difference like asus rog strix b650i.

I was at the same position as you an week ago and had to think about buying the right one. My reason not to pick the gigabyte one was that it had only one m.2 slot which wasn't enough for me

July 15, 2025 - For the b650i version that also had a fan, it was fine but it was additional noise that I could clearly hear compared to silent heatsinks. Another thing to keep in mind is that only 1 of the gigabyte b850i m.2 nvme is on the pcie 5.0 bus, while the other is 4.0 (per their manual), if you plan on using gen 5 SSDs. I personally went with gen 4s. But both m.2 slots on the ASUS are 5.0. Plus some amazon reviews are once again complaining about ethernet and wifi ports dropping off the face of the world (EDIT on the gigabyte), which to me is not a surprise, perhaps expected of at this time.
