How the hell do you update Gigabyte's Motherboard BIOS?
the manual recommends q-flash through the bios, or the flashback button, for best results. I recommend a usb flash drive with an activity indicator LED for best results. should take no longer than 5 minutes to run the process, when complete, the indicator LED will stop flashing. More on reddit.com

Easiest way to update BIOS?
There is no "safest" way, there can always be complications. That said, here is what works for me since the release of X570 mainboards: Download the new BIOS file and put the unzipped file onto a USB Drive. Then remove the drive from the USB Port Restart your computer and go into BIOS Note down all manual changes you might have made to the BIOS settings... because Load optimized defaults and restart After restart, go into BIOS again, put your USB drive into a USB Port and update with the Q-Flash utility in BIOS After restart, go into BIOS again, Load optimized defaults again and restart After that last restart, go into BIOS again, change all your settings you might have made before the update and save+exit More on reddit.com

Bios update
Usually going to Gigabytes website and type in the motherboard you have. Go and download the latest update for your motherboard to a USB. I right click the folder and extract it into the USB you will be using. Make sure the USB doesn’t have anything thing else on there, just the bios files needed to update. Plug in your usb, restart your computer, hit delete while it boots up and should send you into the bios, Go over to System tab, on the bottom you will see QFlash, hit update bios, under the file tab… you should see the file pop up there, select it and hit the next arrow. It should update it there. This video really helped me the first time I did this. Sound kind of sucks but very informative video on how to do this gigabyte bios update . More on reddit.com

Aside from Q-flash, what is an easy way to do so inside Windows 10?

Their docs that come up as the first result on Google search are outdated, and outright direct you to non-existent 404 pages when you try to access the @BIOS tool they advertise.

Then I also just got Gigabyte Control Center, but it told me there's no BIOS update. I just got Z790 Gaming X AX rev 1.0 and I wanna double check if there's a newer BIOS for it, because I feel like my start ups after setting XMP Profile 1 are taking so much longer than normal.

EDIT:

Thank you all for the responses, I did end up using Q-flash from the BIOS. Here are a few important steps I did in case someone is trying to do the same thing:

  • You can find the latest BIOS files for your specific model of your motherboard on their website in the Support tab. If you try to search for this information on Google or what not, you may find some outdated information on their website, do not follow it!

  • Prepare a USB drive and format it with FAT32. Unzip the files from the BIOS you downloaded and copy it to the USB drive.

  • Insert the USB drive in the rear USB slot that says "BIOS" or "Q-flash" depending on the motherboard.

  • Restart PC and either go into Q-flash mode by pressing END or you can access it via BIOS (DEL).

  • Follow instructions.

  • It will take some time to finish and PC will restart a few times. PLEASE NOTE, BIOS settings will all reset, so you will have to go back in to re-enable XMP, etc. In my case bootable devices were not found again, so make sure you enable CSM support and enable UEFI instead of Legacy, that will show all your drives again.

[SOLVED]

So I want to update my BIOS from F8 to F11 but there are so many different guides out there that I don't know what to do now.. Some guides tell you to rename the file, others use a software for the update and so on.

So here's my question: What's the easiest and safest way to update the (main) Bios?

Thanks for any help in advance!

The safest way is to do it from within the BIOS and don't use apps or software in Windows to do it. It's just another point of potential failure imo. Go to Gigabyte's website and find your mobo. Hit support, BIOS, download the latest BIOS (if it has a lower case letter at the end it is a beta BIOS. F33 is official F33h is beta for example). It will list all BIOS updates over time and occasionally you may need to install a previous update to get the latest update to work properly. If this is the case tho it will say so in the notes/description of the BIOS version you're looking at. Grab a usb thumb drive. Format it to FAT32. Right click the thumb drive from your file manager and select quick format for FAT32. Put the BIOS you want to install on the usb drive. You do not have to rename it unless you are using the qflash button on the mobo with no CPU installed. (The reason for this is some mobos are not compatible with the latest CPUs out of the box. You would have to update the BIOS first to get newer CPUs to work on the mobo.) Anyway just copy the BIOS over to the usb as is. Keep the USB drive plugged in, reboot and enter the BIOS - usually you press the 'del' key as your rig is booting and before it starts to load Windows. On the BIOS page there should be an option for QFLASH. Go in there, select your USB drive and find your BIOS file. Installation will take about 3 minutes. Make sure you don't lose power during this time. Reboot. Go into Windows and tada you're -almost- done. Reboot again and go back into the BIOS. You need to turn on XMP for your memory to be at the rated speeds you paid for. If you changed your fan profiles in the past you'll have to do it again after updating the BIOS. You can do it from within the BIOS and if it looks confusing, just look up some videos. I prefer a flat fan curve vs a rounded one so that my fans don't ramp up and down constantly as Ryzen CPU's can spike in temps pretty fast. Now you're done. The whole process shouldn't take longer than 5ish minutes. Typing this up probably took me longer. Edit: oops. I forgot to add you'll want to download the latest chipset driver from the manufacturer. So if you have an AMD mobo go to AMD Drivers/Support, find your chipset (X570 or B550, etc) and download from there. Similar for Intel but their chipsets are named differently like Z390 or whatever.
