r/gigabyte on Reddit: I updated my Gigabyte Z790 Gaming X AX (1.1) BIOS to F11d from F8, and I'm now experiencing random crashes followed by a reboot - is it possible to roll-back the BIOS version?
September 4, 2024 -

I'm using a Gigabyte Z790 Gaming X AX (1.1) with a 13700k and had the BIOS version on F8 - this was undervolted marginally to reduce temperatures, with XMP and Resize BAR enabled. I had absolutely no issues with this but noticed that F11d had been released which apparently addressed the issues and brought in Intel's Default Settings.

I went ahead today, did the BIOS update (via the Q-Flash option in the BIOS menu) and all went ahead without issues - the computer restarted after the update and I went back in to re-enable XMP and such. However, after an hour or so, the computer just turned off and restarted, booting back into Windows as if I'd just held the power button before turning it back on. Since then, it's done this three times - posting a ID 41 Kernel issue in the Event Viewer (which unfortunately doesn't offer much, but confirms there was an issue).

I have seen a few other threads where folk have advised that they have managed to roll back to previous BIOS versions that were known to be stable; such as F8, F9 or F10 - and I was looking to do the same to save myself any issues in the interim.

My question is - can you just download the desired BIOS version from Gigabyte's website, extract to USB and then just install as you would a general update in the BIOS menu through Q-Flash? I'm not confident in going through the EFI Shell and wondered if you could do this via the BIOS as normal, even if it's a backdate.

I appreciate your help in advance, all!

r/gigabyte on Reddit: Has anyone carried out the recent BIOS update which now enables secure boot, and if so, have you faced any issues? [Z790 Gaming X AX]
December 29, 2025 -

I've noticed that Gigabyte have recently released BIOS version F15 for the Z790 Gaming X AX (Rev 1.0), and that one of the release notes advises that Secure Boot is enabled as default from this. I do not have Secure Boot enabled at the present, but have no issue with it now being enabled - however, I know there's been a few issues previously that people have had when it's come to enabling it (such as accessing Windows, etc.). Mines is currently in the state of Enabled but Not Active, which I understand appears to be a glitch as it's technically not enabled as keys aren't assigned.

My drives are all partitioned correct (GPT), TPM 2.0 is enabled and I do not use BitLocker whatsoever, so I don't believe there should be any issue but was just wondering if anyone had recently updated to this firmware and experienced any issues with Secure Boot enabling?

EDIT: I had forgot to note I am currently on F13 and looking to update to F15.

r/gigabyte on Reddit: Z790 Gaming X AX - Bios F9b

Is it okay to install this bios version? I got my new motherboard yesterday and during booting back into Windows it installed F8 through GCC. Does GCC handle the updates of the bios?

Here is an update: Yes, version F9b works on the Gigabyte Gaming X AX. Here are the steps I took: Put the bios binary file on an usb2 thumb drive and name it GIGABYTE.BIN Shutdown the computer and as a precaution you can turn the power supply off and back on after 10/15 seconds. Leaving the USB drive in the dedicated port for bios flashing, leaving the computer off, press the QFLASH_PLUS button on the board (beside the fan connectors). The orange light will start flashing, indicating it is reading the file from the USB. The board will come alive, but do not touch anything. The orange light will blink slower now. After about 5 minutes it is done and the system will actually turn off. Before you power up, reset the bios using the button under the SATA ports called RST_SW. Starting the computer without doing this will cause in a black screen, until you perform a bios reset. Holding that RST_SW for about 3–5 seconds did the trick. Powered up and wait for the memory to train. The first boot can take up to 5 minutes (!!!) and mine took its sweet time. Let it boot up completely, do not attempt to jump straight into the bios. Re-register your windows' hello code (what a flipping pain) and boot fully into Windows. You will notice the memory running at stock 4800Mt/s. Not to worry, I turned the system off and as soon as I pressed the on-button I pressed delete. I see the diag LEDs jump through the pre-boot sequence, and it always takes a little for it to detect I do not have an iGPU (13700KF). It actually allows me to get into the bios and select the XMP profile that I had set on the previous F8 bios. Mind you, I am running the Vengeance 6000Mhz at 6200 because the chip identifies as 3100 MHz and since it is DDR memory the double of 3100 is 6200. Rock solid. There, this is my write-up, I hope it can help someone. Next: 4 x 16Gb at 6200.... Will I get it running at that speed?

From the release notes:

Introduce the "Intel Default Settings" and enabled as default, user needs to disable it first to use GIGABYTE PerfDrive profiles

How do those settings look like and perform? I remember from some of the videos checking the original/previous fix in August the the Intel defaults on Gigabyte boards used incorrect settings with K CPUs and the performance was abysmal. Is it still the case? Because if yes, what is the point of having the fix if I have to disable the settings with the fix in order to get resonable performance out of the CPU? Reasonable as in the default that a 13700K should have OOB without OC.

r/gigabyte on Reddit: Z790 Gaming X AX updated to the new "Vcore limit" BIOS
August 16, 2024 -

Hi, I need an advice on an issue I'm facing with my i7-13700KF, which I've been using since December 2022. I recently updated the BIOS of my of my Z790 Gaming X AX to F11d because I heard about the issue with 13th/14th generation 65W+ CPUs. I ran the 3D Mark Time Spy benchmark before and after the update and there was no difference in the results. However I noticed changes in the temperature. The PC has an Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280 cooler, which is recommended for this CPU, and after a year of use, it has generally been fine hitting 90-95°C. But since yesterday, I've seen higher FPS in Diablo IV along with a higher temperature, reaching 100°C. I'm wondering what went wrong and if anyone has seen similar issues with this motherboard or CPU? Should I consider limiting some settings in the BIOS to lower the temperature?

Results:
Before: https://www.3dmark.com/spy/49621019
After: https://www.3dmark.com/spy/49621890

In the results, we see a lower temperature after the update.

Thanks

Update: Revert the BIOS to F10. It looks almost the same - 28000 points and 100C in Cinebench. But during game barely hits 70C. The Vcore reaches 1.332V
