Just looking at the things I notice: MSI board comes with M.2 heatsinks for four ports. Gigabyte board has three total M.2 ports, and heatsink for only one. MSI board has a much beefier chipset heatsink MSI has much beefier VRM cooling Both support BIOS flashback (not sure why you'd need it on a Z790 board, but nice to have, I guess), MSI has a clear CMOS button, as opposed to a jumper that has to be tripped (or pulling the CMOS battery) in the event you need to clear it MSI rear port selection is far more robust. The MSI board features an additional (10Gb/s) USB-C port, an additional 3x USB Type A 3.2 Ports, MSI has Intel Wifi 6E as opposed to Realtek Wifi 5 MSI has Bluetooth 5.3 vs 4.1 on the Gigabyte MSI has Intel 2.5GbE LAN vs Realtek MSI has more fan headers (possibly more LED/RGB connectors - I'm not counting those across the two boards) MSI has 7 SATA ports to the Gigabyte's six MSI probably has more robust on-board RGB/lighting MSI arguably has the better looking board between the two. All of those mean that MSI thinks their board is worth an increase of ~60% in cost. I can say this: the performance of whatever CPU and GPU you install on the two should be more-or-less the same. Are all of those features worth the increase? Tough to say. It probably wouldn't be for me. Answer from psimwork on reddit.com

Gigabyte Z790 UD AX 1.0 DDR 5 Issues
Try running the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool and using that to stress test the CPU. (You can download the tool from Intel here https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005567/processors.html ) If any part of the test fails then you need to RMA the CPU. Assuming that passes then you might just have been incredibly unlucky with the silicon lottery and have a CPU with a poor IMC that causes memory related instability. More on reddit.com

why does the top comment call this z790 s a bad mobos? I thought z790s were near high range mobos
Z790 is just one chip on the board (that determines a lot, but not all), there are still many others parts that can vary in quality. That particular Z790 is kind of a budget option. So parts like VRM (important for performance and overclocking) might be something they cheaped out on, limiting potential overclocking. That is in general, I don't know the specifics for this motherboard. More on reddit.com

r/buildapc on Reddit: Why is this motherboard significantly cheaper than other ones that seem comparable?
December 8, 2022 -

I'm building a new gaming PC and currently looking at DDR5 compatible motherboards. Most boards compatible with the rest of my build are priced around $350-$450ish (Canadian) but the GIGABYTE Z790 UD AC LGA 1700 Intel Z790 ATX board is around ~$270 and I can't see any particular reason for such a steep price difference. There's also pretty much no reviews out there which always makes me a bit nervous. For comparison, one of the other boards I was looking at was the MSI MAG Z790 TOMAHAWK WIFI LGA 1700 Intel Z790 which is ~$430.

Anyone have any insight? Is the gigabyte board a good value or should I just spend more on another board?

ATX motherboards have 7 expansion slots. MATX have 4. How many do you plan to use? For most, it will only be one, the X16 pcie slot for the gpu. As to your B760 selections, I might pick the Steel legend which looks like it has been out for a while. As to the cpu, the 13600KF is a nice gift, keep it.

To be honest PCI-E gen 5 really isn't that big of a deal. By the time it is, you would need a new platform anyway. I would probably choose DDR4, to save money as well. DDR5 doesn't really show a benefit unless you are running top of the line CPU and GPU. Changed to DDR4, added motherboard, and swapped those overpriced 1tb SSD's for 2tb models. Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX
The Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX motherboard performed well in our testing and looked good doing it, adding some RGB bling to our test bench. If your new system doesn't require a PCIe 5.0-capable M.2 socket, it's a great option in the midrange Intel LGA1700 market.
