Hi,

I am building a static website using Hugo and want to deploy it in gitlab pages. However, I would like to provide the download of a pdf document.

Is this possible to do using Hugo?

If not, how would you do it?

The pdf document would be hosted in the same gitlab repository.

Put the pdf files into static folder and Hugo will copy them over to public folder where your website resides. IMHO it's a Hugo-specific question rather than a GitLab one.

As a PDF, not sure. But you can clone the repo . There may also be build artifacts you can download, perhaps. But this will probably just get you an HTML format copy, not PDF. I'm not familiar with the tools they use to build the docs, but it may be modifiable to produce PDF output instead of HTML or you might be able to use a tool like pandoc to convert it. If you have a self-hosted instance of GitLab, you also have a copy of the documentation hosted on your instance. Any particular reason you want an offline copy or in PDF format specifically?

There should be a docker image for that

Anyone happen to have a convenient way to save the GitLab Documentation from https://docs.gitlab.com/ to PDF or ODT files? GitLab does not offer any files, just their documentation wiki. We're on GitLab Ultimate (Self Managed), but GitLab Support could not help.

I found a bunch of requests for PDF export in the GitLab project on gitlab.com, both for the GitLab documentation and the GitLab wiki feature in general, but most of them have been sitting for many years.

The wiki looks markdown based, so I had a look at github-wikito-converter but after cloning gitlab-docs I could not immediately figure out where the markdown files and associated content is hiding.

I'm sure we're not the only ones with this requirement and hoping someone has already done this?

Had the same issue and landed here, maybe this helps somebody.

I didn't find a way to embed the .pdf into a page but what I did was to add the .pdf to the wiki folder (like a normal page). Initially this didn't show up in the sidebar nor was it searchable from Github.

It is possible however to link it directly from other pages or a custom sidebar (see for example osquery's wiki for a nice sidebar). Clicking on the link allows you to download the .pdf (didn't find a way to preview it in the browser)

It is possible that such action type is not allowed only in cloud gitlab version, cause gitlab-gollum lib documentation describes it so:

i was hoping for something like the python-gitlab pdf file but for the gitlab community edition product.

I tried google'ing but no luck. so i figured i would ask. if no, it's not too big a deal because i will buy an ebook with a pdf file[1].

Amusing sidenote: I just google'd for "manning books gitlab" and found a bunch of gitlab repos... so apparently Manning also use gitlab.

But why?

I don't think there will be. GitLab is constantly changing and updating their documentation asking with the application so a PDF wouldn't really work all that well. I'm interested to hear your reasons for needing one though
