But twice now I've had to rebuild my website because it started charging me for things and the only way they could refund it was to cancel my whole site. When ask the reps they just tell me I have to purchase a plan to keep my site up. It's like they have all been trained to hard sell but have no idea about the claims their own website makes.
So is it actually possible to have a free website forever or is that just something they are lying about?

GoDaddy’s been doing that for a while. They’ll say it’s free then start charging for random stuff later. I use Durable now for my small business site. It’s simple, instant, and you can stay on free mode as long as you want.

OP did you ever figure this out? I’m actually in the middle of this mess! I created and paid for a Domain. Then I found out after that I need to pay for a premium if I want to use my domain for the free website- builder. I was talking to a rep and he kept telling me that even if I don’t link the domain, my free website will be removed after the free trial is over. I sent him exactly the link and screenshot of what you have posted. He kept saying he does not see that and there is no free option forever. This is so frustrating!

TL;DR—if you fail to achieve any ROI with godaddy you were likely to fail with ANY option that you were to invest in. Asking if you should use Godaddy for your website and SEO is a bit like asking if you should shop at Walmart for dinner and fishing gear. It’s all nearly unrelated and its highly up to your own ability to utilize what is available. The good stuff: As someone who has built nearly a thousand websites, you should know this—there is nothing wrong or right about Go Daddy. If you and/or your company is not knowledgeable enough in web development and SEO that you don’t know how to decisions about which web related vendors to choose: A) that’s okay! You don’t have to be an expert in marketing and marketing technology. But… B) You will want to collaborate with someone who is an expert before you start moving forward making a bunch of decisions. Don’t just jump into hiring some agency to fulfill all of your requests. Keep first contact simple. Find a person who builds websites and ask them for their opinions and insight. Don’t just start buying web services like they are menu items at a buffet. A relationship between expertise of web host, web site development and SEO doesn’t exist. Do not assume that someone who understands web design also knows SEO, or that anyone who knows web hosting knows anything about web development. These are VERY separate disciplines. I do not use Go Daddy for myself or my clients, but I have had dozens of clients come to me with their existing sites hosted with GoDaddy. I have no problems with GoDaddy at all, I never have. Everything went fine for me and I had no trouble accomplishing what I needed with their tools. Their services are no better or worse than anyone else’s, in my view. However, your company’s SEO won’t likely see any return on investment until your company gets good at doing their own SEO. It’s not a service that you can pay someone to operate for you without a whole lot of very specific literacy in several marketing disciplines. It seems your company needs quite a bit of help from a marketing consultant before you move forward with thousands of dollars invested into incoherent marketing. I really do wish you all the best!
