There's nothing wrong with that. Slodt is talking about using the name of a real city and location -- but one he picks off-hand without knowing anything about it -- because he thinks it doesn't matter and no one will care. Excuse me if I'm missing something, but none of those places in the OP... More on writingforums.com

There's something about my fictional city names that don't hit as hard as real cities. I'm wondering why that is and if there's any way to overcome that feeling. I'm writing in a post-apocalyptic setting so the city names have to be more grounded compared to a fantasy world.

Just a small tip that you rarely hear about world-building names: If the nation living there are the original inhabitants, the city (or forest, or mountain, etc) names have a meaning (eg, Tower of the Guard, City of Alexander, Highcastle) because they named the places themselves. But! If the nation living there conquered or found the city/mountain/whatever when it arrived, the names are just names (Araleth, Varesia, Grazz), which maybe had a meaning in the older language of the now lost former inhabitants.

May 24, 2013 - There's a Rome, Georgia -- closest thing there has ever been to anything Italian there is the Pizza Hut. Otherwise, you have all kinds of leeway when naming U.S. cities and towns. I can't imagine ever being stuck for long trying to come up with one. The name of my fictional small Georgia town is Plankville.
