So I’m a little confused by the OP’s scenario. I recently helped the business set up a Google my business, and although they are service based business during the set up process it actually asked for an address. It wouldn’t let me proceed without one so there is now an address associated with a service based business. If I look on Google maps I see the pin for that address and again the business is a service based. Does that mean the account will get suspended? Answer from halfadashi on reddit.com

Looking for advice on how to get my business to show up on google maps without searching
The actual answer is to own your google business listing. Once you are the verified owner, you can pin your location on the map. You should also own your Yelp business listing and your Bing business listing. All three are free. More on reddit.com

Service Area Business or physical location/address for a google business profile?
There is no inherent disadvantage of hiding the address for the algorithm. However, there are other factors that come into play. Keep in mind, engagement on a listing is a ranking factor. Businesses with addresses showing (warehouse/storefront) are often larger businesses as they are able to rent a physical space, as opposed to working from your home. Larger businesses are able to afford better SEO Larger businesses have more customers (which leave them more reviews = more engagement) Hiding your address means that no one can ask for directions to the business (= less engagement) If an address is hidden, it often means it is located at a residential address. Business owners sometimes do not want the house address displayed anywhere on the web, which limits the amount of citations/directories that the business builds. These are some of the main issues that I see that place SABs at a disadvantage. More on reddit.com

r/GoogleMyBusiness on Reddit: How do you get your service-based business on Google's map as an actual location without getting suspended?
August 21, 2024 -

I see multiple pressure washing companies on google in my area that are obviously service based that go to the customer, but their home address is a red pin on google's map pack. If you see their google street, they have no permanent signage or indication that their homes are also open to the public. From what i can tell this should be grounds for suspension by google.

And It's kind of unfair because if you make a google my business for a proximity area and not a brick and mortar location, it wont pop up on google maps as a red pin and means less people are likely to see your business.

I'm not worried about people seeing my home address if it means more chances of people seeing my business. But how can you even have a service based business on google maps without suspension like a lot of these businesses?

I understand how frustrating it can be to see other service-based businesses show up on Google Maps with a red pin when they technically operate out of a home address. While it may look unfair, there are legitimate ways to set up a Google Business Profile, if you’re a service-based business. Below are a few key points and best practices you should keep in mind to avoid suspension and keep Google happy: Below is a direct reference to Google’s guidelines regarding service-area businesses and displaying an address in Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business). The official help article is found here: Google Business Profile Guidelines for Service-Area Businesses . Key Points from the Guidelines Service-Area Businesses (SABs): Businesses that visit or deliver goods/services to customers at their location. Examples include plumbers, home cleaning companies, landscaping, pest control, and most service-based providers that work remotely at a customer’s property or job site. Hiding Your Address: If you do not serve customers at your listed address (i.e., you don’t have a publicly accessible storefront or consistent signage), you must set your Business Profile to “Service-Area Business” and remove/hide your address. Google specifically states that if your address is used solely for receiving mail or isn’t staffed during stated business hours, it should not be listed. When You Can Display Your Address: If your location is truly a brick-and-mortar with regular business hours, or if you have an office or storefront where customers can walk in or meet by appointment, you may display your address. You need to ensure that the address you display is staffed or available for customer visits during the hours listed on your profile.
