I used to use Chrome but switched to Safari a couple years ago but I really miss using Chrome for how much faster it felt. Do you guys think now it is still bad for the CPU?
Hello everyone I tried to download chrome for my MacBook 2020 and i couldn’t manage to do. Can someone help me and explain how it works . Ps: on appstore it’s coming out one pack with mozila, opera , chrome … and those pack isn’t for free.
Is it just me, or does Chrome seem more optimized for macOS than Safari these days? Safari feels heavier and laggier with each new update. I'm seriously considering switching to Chrome. Anyone else notice this?
I'm genuinely curious, as someone who has always used Safari.
I know there may be people using others than the above mentioned, but wanted to know out of safari and chrome what is better? I’ve been using safari since I got my MacBook but it’s honestly not that good because sometimes when I open a new tab and try to search something it just won’t search and I’ll have to close the safari app. Chrome has been great but I heard safari uses a lot less memory?
Edit: wow thanks for all the responses. I should just stick with safari for now then since you all recommend it more than chrome. I think I need to update to Ventura to remove the bugs I experience at times.
Thanks all
A couple of years ago Google Chrome could mess up Final Cut Pro and the issue even had a domain name. Is there any truth to this nowadays? I’m on safari exclusively but I like chrome as well.
I've been a mac user for 3 years now and I've used chrome all this time. i found some people asking others to not use this browser. What seems to be the issue?
I don't know how many people agree but time and over I feel Macbooks are intentionally designed to make products suck which are not of their own. And to the top of their list is Google Chrome!
In my windows I used to open so many tabs in multiple window and it didn't lag but I think Chrome on Macbook cannot function as seamlessly as on Windows. Chrome always lags here.
I have so many complains from multi-tasking to file organization now that my basic feature of web browsing cannot work well.
Anyone faces this issue?
PS: I have Late 2021 Macbook Pro 16 GB RAM and 1 TB Memory (5 month old)
I’m back to Google Chrome after testing almost every browser for my MacBook Air M2 (8/256 base model).
About three months ago, I deleted Chrome from my Mac without ever really testing its memory usage or battery performance. I had seen a lot of Reddit posts claiming Chrome eats a ton of RAM, CPU, and battery, so I decided to uninstall it and switch to Safari.
At first, Safari seemed fine — clean and smooth. But then I noticed that whenever I opened 5–6 tabs, my Mac started heating up a lot. I initially thought it was because of the hot environment, but even when the temperature was cool, my Mac would still get warm while using simple sites like Facebook, Gmail, LinkedIn, and YouTube. I restarted a few times, but the issue stayed.
Next, I switched to Firefox. It performed decently, but I found its UI hard to get used to, and I couldn’t find a proper memory-saver option. So I deleted it and went on to try Arc, Zen, SigmaOS, Vivaldi, Orion, and Brave. Unfortunately, none of them gave me a satisfying experience.
My last option was Microsoft Edge — the same browser we used to download Chrome back in the Windows days. But this time, Edge really surprised me. It used less RAM, gave noticeably better battery life, and kept my Mac cool even with 10–11 heavy tabs open. I used it for quite a while.
However, after the Tahoe update, Edge started getting buggy — I couldn’t pin tabs or open new ones properly, and the glitches piled up. I waited for an update, but nothing came. So yesterday I thought, “Wait, I never really tested Chrome properly before uninstalling it. Let’s give it another shot. If it’s bad, I’ll go back to Edge.”
I downloaded Chrome again, went straight into the performance settings, turned on memory saving, and disabled tab preloading. And to my surprise — Chrome worked great.
The same YouTube video that used around 1 GB of RAM on Edge or Safari only used about 777 MB on Chrome, with the same quality. Not just YouTube — other sites also ran lighter. Chrome was using less RAM overall, probably because I optimized the settings for performance.
So to those who think Chrome is a battery and memory hog — try tweaking the performance settings before judging. It might surprise you.
I’m not an expert, just a regular user sharing my experience — hopefully it helps someone struggling to find the right browser for their Mac.
Tldr: what browser should I use?
Story: so basically I always used google chrome. But I would see my laptop feeling a little bit slower, may be just me. I recently got the new m1 air and I’ve been using microsoft edge for the time being. My laptop seems to feel “buggier” and slower but it may just be a placebo. I was wondering if you guys know what browser I should use as google chrome is so much more convenient and efficient but idk, it feels unoptimised for performance, as if it uses up all my ram
I switch between Safari and Chrome, but I mainly use Safari. How about you?
I'm going into college soon and after years of using a Chromebook I got my first Mac. I wanted to download Chrome simply because it's more organized for me and I can navigate it easier than Safari sometimes. But I keep seeing stuff about how Chrome slows the Mac down and drains the battery. Is this true, or should I just stick to Safari?
Most of my friends use chrome and always have a negative feedback about safari. However personally, safari was a game changer for me.
Hi!
I just got my first MacBook. I use Safari as my main browser. I love Safari. I really want to know why people prefer Chrome over Safari.
All answers are welcome.
Edit: If someone have tips for how to use macOS. You can send it. I would be happy to read some tips too. :)
