r/browsers on Reddit: Chrome - best privacy practices.
November 23, 2023 -

I'm a lifelong Firefox user. I switched in the early 2000's from Netscape to Firefox and never looked back. I do have chrome installed but don't use it at all - it is strictly for troubleshooting when pages don't work properly.

I have to configure a newly bought computer for a less tech-savy family member and she absolutely insists on Chrome no matter my arguments because she is used to it.

So, having been out of the loop what are some good measures for customizing Chrome for maximum privacy nowadays? I am open to advanced/custom settings, scripts, things that are checked/unchecked by default but shouldn't be, add-ons, etc. I am looking for a some guidance to preconfigure it and make it as smooth as possible without introducing technical interactions prompting the user so exclude things like NoScript and the likes. Hope my English makes sense.

I just want a more secure and privacy oriented experience (to the extent in which it is possbile with closed-source software) than what is offered out of the box. Thus far I have only installed uBlock origin.

Thanks.
