About Display ads and the Google Display Network - Google Ads Help
While the Search Network can reach people while they search for specific goods or services, the Display Network can help you capture someone's attention earlier in the buying cycle. You can put your ads in front of people before they start searching for what you offer, which can be key for your overall advertising strategy.

Is the Display Network absolute pure rubbish?
In my opinion, it's been trash at least since they removed the ability to exclude all mobile apps with one setting. Since then, even if I remove all 140-something app categories, I still get mobile app trash showing up in the placement reports which is never quality traffic. And I've never seen good results from any of their interest based or in-market audiences. Their criteria for determining who fits into those sucks; just terrible CTRs and junk traffic. IF I were to ever run a regular display campaign again, I'd stick to keyword targeting or topics or manual placements. More on reddit.com

What's the deal with google display ads?
Don't start out with GDN. Start with search ads and then if you're not getting enough volume or want to expand - look at Meta, Microsoft Ads and Demand Gen (owned and operated inventory by Google). More on reddit.com

Is the Display Network absolute pure rubbish? : r/PPC
January 13, 2023 - Most publishers of tier 1 websites don’t accept ads from the Adsense network as they deem the advertisers low quality. They do accept ads from high spending advertisers with access to Display360 (Million dollar spenders) however, to save face, Google lumps both advertiser tiers into the Google Display Network to make it seem like if you run display ads through Google Ads (Adsense) you are getting the same inventory as advertisers on Display360.

Search Network vs Display Network — Supersede Media
March 9, 2022 - To keep things simple, it splits things up into two categories: the Search Network and the Display Network. As you may expect, the heart of the Search Network is Google’s core product: its search engine. When you pay for this kind of ad, it will appear in a prominent position somewhere on the SERP—usually at the top of the page, but sometimes in other locations.
