As many of you probably know, Google Docs users can't switch over fully yet because we can't edit our google docs files offline yet.
So will this work one day on edge?
I know there is the Office online alternative on edge but all my files are on Gdrive.
Web based Office apps with OneDrive for cloud storage is the intended alternative. If you are going to remain locked in to Google docs on Google Drive then Edge may not be your ideal tool. Why leave Chrome if you are not also on a mission to abandon all things Google?
You can do this with Edge. I have and am currently using it.
-
From your edge browser, go to google store extensions.
-
Install extension google docs offline. This is hidden so you need to go via direct link: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/google-docs-offline/ghbmnnjooekpmoecnnnilnnbdlolhkhi
-
Install user-agent switcher and manager. (not hidden. search for it in google store).
-
Impersonate google chrome on edge. Can do per app or globally. Clicking the extension button at top-right and selecting the «Chrome» user agent and your OS. In my case, Chrome (latest version number) and Windows 10. Select the appropriate one for you.
-
Enable google docs offline. In google drive/docs, general setting, check offline mode.

Hope this helps.
Not only did I not ask for it - it's not even an official Edge extension. I've set my browser to only allow extensions from the official Microsoft Add-ons Store, so apparently I don't get to have a say in that either. Has anyone else had this happen to them?
