But heres my answer/thoughts :) Do you have a USB-C Hub? And you will need one with enough PD. I dont know if this would work but it is worth a try! Due to you can connect USB Sticks this way, there might be the chance that maybe the VLC Player could read the DVD or the video folder on it. Is it possible to use a DVD player with a HDMI cable to play DVDs on a Chromebook? Or can I use the DVD player with my Chromebook at all?
If you're talking about a DVD player that you normally connect to your TV, then the HDMI port is HDMI out --- as it is on your Chromebook. Your Chromebook isn't designed to take external video signals and display them on the display. Having said that, I don't know what a DVD player would be doing with a USB port on the front... I'm wondering if I could use the port in the device to plug in an external DVD or Blu Ray drive into the device and watch discs with it. Having the ability to play physical media on this thing would be nice.

Why wouldn't you just hook up the DVD or Blu ray player right to the TV? It's not like you could control the DVD player with the Chromecast.
