Jun–Aug is peak travel to Algeria s capital and elsewhere on its Mediterranean coast. Countrywide, Mar–Oct is warm, becoming very hot Jun–Sep. During summer, Oran s Festival du Raï (Aug) showcases Algerian folk rock. Any rain tends to fall Nov–Feb, when temperatures are cooler, especially at night. r/GoogleFi on Reddit: Activating in Egypt
January 31, 2023 -

Looks like Google Fi works well enough in Egypt. I really just need it to get texts with verification codes from my financial institutions.

My question is does anyone have experience activating a new Google Fi account while abroad? T&C says it needs to be activated in the US but I wasn't sure if it was enforced or if there's a way around this using a VPN or some other way...

I'm a little stressed. I lost my wallet in Morocco and only have my emergency travel card for now and I'm currently locked out of it until I can get a verification text from them. I was using Visible via WiFi when I first left the US but it stopped working.

Thanks!

I got stranded at the airport because I couldn’t connect to the internet (cellular) and couldn’t connect up the airport free WiFi because you must first receive a text confirmation code (via cellular) to connect. ... I am in Cairo right now with Google Fi and the service is terrible.

r/GoogleFi on Reddit: Fi Coverage in Tunisia - customer service told me to buy a different provider…
September 23, 2021 -

I’m pretty shocked and disappointed with Fi. I used this service years ago as an alternative to Verizon and enjoyed it until somehow a family plan with Verizon became cheaper. I’m on a month long vacation and was bouncing around 5 countries that Fi claimed to have support in. It worked great in all but one. I was stopping in Tunisia for a day and then returning a week later for another seven days - when I first got there service didn’t work at all. I contacted support, went through the trouble shooting, got one network to connect with no bars, just LTE symbol, was able to go to google.com but then it disconnected in less than a minute and never connected again… my hotel Wifi cutout, and my chat with the rep went over email…

The multiple different people I was bounced to after that told me a myriad of things, including that I should just buy a local sim. That Tunisia is supported and I should just turn airplane mode on and off again… then a rep said no worries it’ll work when you return. Needless to say I get back, it doesn’t work. Not even that less than a minute connection.

Now I’m told, we’ll since you had that less than a minute connection, that means fi works and therefore I can’t have my case escalated to a network specialist and should try airplane mode. They even linked me to the coverage page again.

I’m so frustrated, I don’t know what to do at this point. I’ve honestly kind of liked not having the phone on vacation but I’m also remembering I paid for this service and I’m receiving nothing. I’ve another person on the trip with me using fi and their service also does not work at all. (Both iPhone, pro 12 and pro 14). Our friend on T-Mobile is having a great time though….

Any suggestions people have to remedy would be appreciated either on the connectivity side or what to do with customer service at this point… granted I’m now leaving in two days - I suppose I was too hopeful that CS would resolve…
