I just don't understand it. over 2 years ago I signed up with the expectation that I would receive a new phone after paying for 2 years. I didn't read the fine print, didn't fully understand that I was paying for the phone that was given to me. I'll own up to that.
But here is where it gets weirder.
An 'upgrade' to the Pixel 7a through the subscription plan is $20.80 a month for 2 years.
Buying a new Pixel 8 is only $16.62 a month.
Intriguing.. But I understand. It's on sale right now. $300 off. a little interesting that a newer, stronger phone would be cheaper.
from the shop in the SAME WEBSITE, Pixel 7a is ALSO on sale $200 off or $12.46 a month.
So. Ultimately, the phone subscription plan gives no benefits, Sales don't apply to the upgrade. You can do everything off the subscription plan that you could do on it.
What am I missing here? Please help me understand why a massive company has this system?

I have a Google pixel 4a subscription and am going to pay it off to upgrade. Will I be able to upgrade to a subscription for the 7 or 7a? The upgrade directions say to select the 6a. Do they not offer the 7a or 7 on the same phone subscription plan as they did for the 4a? I have gotten lots of conflicting info from customer support. Thanks!
The 7a is not (yet) on subscription but presumably will be in the not so distant future.
Edit: mind you, if you can't wait and you're thinking about doing the 6A on subscription I strongly recommend just financing the current sale price of 199 for 24 months with 0% as that is both (marginally) cheaper than the subscription plan and if you decide to pay it off early, you won't lose the savings like you will with a subscription plan when you pay it off early ending your commitment.
I get the feeling they're done with subscriptions and are sticking to the $xx off over xx months promo they are running now.
What is the catch on the subscription program? I was ready to pay up front, but this seems like they are giving a discount AND free financing.
Hi all,
Been on Fi for a while. Two years ago I signed up to the phone subscription program which was a super reasonable $9 a month (I cancelled the protection plan) for 24 months for my 5a. Now it says that on August 2 I'll be eligible to upgrade to a new Pixel 7a.
If I upgrade, will it remain at the $9 per month cost for the 7a? Been trying to find some sort of confirmation which has been weirdly hard to do.
Thanks!
