Absolutely love using Google Fi, even on iPhone. Sure, it might not be the cheapest possible carrier, or have some millimeter wave technology everywhere, but Fi is super solid for what I need. My absolute favorite thing about Fi is its international coverage. I honestly don't understand how people cope with needing to buy an additional SIM, or try to find some eSIM someplace, tell folks "oh, call me on this Greece number instead" or end up using slower data or have to hunt for Wifi, or get charged $10 a day, so you end up coming home to an additional $70 on your bill just because you had to work overseas for part of the month. Just wild to me. By the time the plane is taxiing off the runway, I already have LTE or 5G service and that's that. Can use hotspot if I need to get my work machine online, call an Uber, be productive immediately. For me its a peace-of-mind value add. A part of life I just don't even think about anymore. I can use loads of data just about anywhere on the planet, and my bill stays the same. Fi also provides data-only SIMs. Order one of those, pop it into a tablet, and that device also has the same plan/international coverage for no additional $30 tablet add-on junk. Its awesome. Domestically, you run on T-Mobile's towers, which are totally fine. I haven't had service problems other than when I'm lost somewhere in the middle of Appalachia in a valley someplace. Your mileage may vary, but its been just as solid as if I were on AT&T or Verizon according to friends with those carriers. iPhone support has improved greatly over the years since I started with Fi back in... 2016? I think with iOS 17's voicemail transcription, it'll feel about the same vs. using an Android device. As of now you have to open the Fi app to get to your transcribed voicemails rather than them being in the Phone app. Also, from my understanding, the carrier switching is pretty much dead nowadays anyway, so its not something to worry about. I know I'm gushing here, but it feels like people are sleeping on Fi just because it doesn't tick the highest version of every single box for every person at the lowest cost of any carrier.

Google Fi has now reworked their plans. You can now get a plan from them for $35 bucks a month with unlimited everything with 30gb of full speed data, plus a smartwatch for free. Also, their $50 plan includes 50gb of full speed data, and their $65 plan now includes 100gb of full speed data. Still also the only provider with postpaid priority on TMO. Pretty cool for $35

Hi Fi Fam,

We started Google Fi Wireless 10 years ago to bring people wireless connectivity that’s simple and secure. Many of you in r/GoogleFi have been here with us since the beginning. We're thrilled to share this anniversary with you — our supporters and early adopters who have helped shape Fi into what it is today.

To celebrate this milestone, there are a few announcements that we wanted to share. You can learn all about these in the Google Keyword blog, but we’re bringing the TL;DR right here to r/GoogleFi.

  • New: Our most affordable unlimited plan

Unlimited Essentials, our newest unlimited plan, includes unlimited calls, texts and data, with 30 GB of high-speed data in the U.S. for $35/month for one line.1,2

  • Big upgrades to our other unlimited plans

Unlimited Premium, previously Unlimited Plus, now has 100 GB of high-speed data, up from 50 GB, for the same price of $65/month for one line.1,2

  • Connect tablets and laptops with data-only eSIMs!

You all know and love that Fi offers connectivity for cellular-enabled tablets and laptops at no extra cost with data-only SIMs.4 We’re now broadening access to this feature with data-only eSIMs, which means you can quickly and easily connect newer, eSIM-compatible devices like Android tablets and iPads with data on the go, without needing a physical SIM card.

  • International 5G coverage is expanding

For users on the Unlimited Premium and Flexible plans, we’re more than doubling our international 5G network by adding 54 countries, and making international 5G available on iPhone in addition to Android phones.5,6

Limited-time promotions for new and existing customers

To celebrate our 10th anniversary, we’re also launching limited-time promotions for new and existing Fi users.

  • For new customers, we're offering the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel Watch 3 on us.7 Note: This offer is available until April 29, or while supplies last.

  • For our existing customers, we're showing our appreciation with even deeper instant rebate discounts across all Pixel 9 phones! Check your Fi account for these exclusive offers for our loyal users.

r/GoogleFi on Reddit: New to Google Fi
June 28, 2025 -

hi , I'm new to google fi and am happy to be here. I am on the Unlimited Standard plan for 3 line. what made me pull the trigger on google fi was the 1/2 price offer for 1 year to bring our own phone. there are many things about google fi i am tickled about. the price is unbelievable, and the free watch connectivity was just the cherry on top! Second being on T-mobile networkand not deprioritized is awsome. I feel like i am cheating by getting the same network and performance as t-mobile. I do deliveries in a small city in Maine. Previously i was with an mvno that used the verizon network. In theory my previous carrier should have slightly better coverage. but in practice Google Fi is much better. i am always on 5g. and where i had occasional dead spots where the signal seemed blocked with my previous service. Google Fi has been more consistent and solid throughout. It just works and is 5g fast everywhere. As far as signing up goes, it was very easy. the website is straightforward and simple. I recieved a promotion and am easily able to track the status and progress of my promotion. I was concerned that activating and switching my numbers would be troublesome and a pain. But that is not the case at all. All i had to do was put my previous account number and number transfer pin into the google fi app. and click to activate and the process only takes about 15 minutes. Each line has their own account info available in the app. so that each member can track their data during the month. each line can also activate a samsung or google pixel watch at no additional cost. one drawback is that apple watch is not supported. I have a galaxy 7 watch and it was very simple to activate on the Google fi network.

I researching what company to go with, i did consider what customer service is like. So i know Google Fi has reportedly very bad customer service (according to reddit). So i understand if i get into a bind where i cannot resolve issues on my own, i could be out of luck. I think many of these companies rely on the system so that customers can find resolutions on their own. My experience so far , the support of the "system" is very good. I decided that i could not pass up the great price and have to live with the fact that i might not be able to get human assistance if needed. I also decided that if things get intolerable, i will just leave and go to another provider. It appears that process also is very easy and leaving google Fi is just a click or 2 away if needed. The plans i signed up for have no obligation, so i can leave when ever i want. I'm hoping that will not happen, but that is my mindset and i will not stress myself if i cannot receive support when needed. Have a plan B. I know US Mobile is aways right there if i want to change. I was leaning toward US Mobile or T-Mobile, but the great price of Google Fi was too good to pass up.

So in sum my experience has been very positive so far , I love the service (network), and getting activated is very easy. I know Google Fi does not get a lot of positive posts on here, so i just wanted to add a positive experience. Let me know your experience .

r/GoogleFi on Reddit: Google Fi Wireless: Flexible, secure phone plans for families
April 19, 2023 -

Hi everyone,

As we continue to evolve and improve Google Fi Wireless, we're excited to share some updates with you!

More value for the whole family. For the price that most people pay for a single line on most carriers, our Simply Unlimited plan is only $80/month for two to four lines, with unlimited data, calls, and texts within the US, Canada and Mexico, plus 5 GB of hotspot tethering. Starting today, the plan will also include full connectivity for compatible smartwatches at no extra cost (it counts towards your data usage). For all plans, you can now get a phone on us after 24 monthly bill credits with every new line you add to your plan.

A risk-free way to try it out before switching. Anyone with an eSIM compatible phone interested in trying out Google Fi Wireless can now sign up for our 7 day free trial.[1] The trial works right on your phone alongside your current service, and you’ll get unlimited data, calls, and texts in the US, hotspot tethering, spam call blocking and VPN to encrypt your online activity for private online connections.[2][3]

A new family-centric experience. Starting today and rolling out over the coming weeks, we’re sharing a refreshed family-centric design of our app, making it easier to manage your family’s digital safety settings, such as ensuring your child can only be called or texted by trusted numbers, and gives you the ability to add new members, discover helpful features and more, all in one place.[4]

Whichever plan you choose, Google Fi Wireless can deliver a great experience for families who want to stay connected.

---------------

Disclaimers:

[1] The trial auto-renews after seven days, and can be canceled anytime.

[2] Blocks spam known to Google; may not detect all spam calls.

[3] Restrictions apply. Some data is not transmitted through VPN. Use of VPN may increase data costs depending on your plan.

[4] Contact controls available only on Android phones.

I currently have Verizon and my wife and I are on my parent's plan because it's financially beneficial for all of us. But each of us are paying upwards of 175 a month because we have new device payment plans. I'm looking to switch away from Verizon but really like their service coverage.

Google-Fi prices are amazing and so I'm looking to possibly switch to them once my device is paid off next month and I'm looking to get a new Google Pixel through the Fi plan as well.

Can anyone provide an honest unbiased opinion on Google Fi, it's network coverage and reliability and it's downsides or upsides other than cheaper plans?

I've been on Fi for several years (when it was ProjectFi actually) and have no issues with the service. I've interacted with support a single time in all these years. I had to call them when my Nexus 5X became stuck and unusable in a boot loop and they sent me a replacement. My bill was about $33 but I recently switched from the Pixel 3a to the 6a and so now it's around $45 ($10 Pixel subscription). I've only used Google phones (Nexus, Pixel) and so maybe that helps. The only other service that looks appealing is Mint mobile but I am too lazy to switch.

Network coverage--very much YMMV based on location. Reliability--I used Fi a long time ago, left for verizon prepaid and came back to Fi last year. I notice oddities with network reliability now that I didn't notice before when I was on Fi--it's little things like I know there's coverage but occasionally I don't get strong data. It's so infrequent that it doesn't impact me, and localized to specific locations. I found Verizon coverage to be wider and more reliable but not in a way that I cared vs. price and also lack of features. One thing I didn't like about verizon prepaid was lack of visual voicemail. I'm in the California Bay Area for what its worth--both verizon and t-mobile show pretty much full coverage based on their maps. I still found verizon a bit more reliable. Anyway, other things to consider. Google support is variable and can fail miserably at times. It's not the norm, but it can happen. I had a bad experience with device returns 5 years ago. I've had good experiences with helping number port-in issues. Downsides--since this is a google product and heavily integrated with google services and device firmware, if you have an issue with service it's not uncommon for support to have you do things like capture bug reports on your phone and send them. Then it's not uncommon to have to wait days or a week or more to hear back if there are any resolutions. I don't like that aspect and no other phone provider would do that. 5g is meh--not specifically a google fi problem because it relies on the parent provider networks, but on fi you don't get access to some of t-mobile's enhanced network capacity like 5g UC. With the price reductions for family plans and increased data allowances it was easy for us to switch 3 lines to the simply unlimited plan and pay the same we were on verizon prepaid but have significantly more data. I do wish they would allow data-only SIMs on the simply unlimited plan, and not have arbitrary 5gb caps on wifi hotspot--wish they would treat your data as your data, letting you use your 35gb however you want/need. But that's not unlike a lot of other cellular providers these days. And if you want that you can pay more for the unlimited + plan.

I've been a member since this was just called Project Fi. The first 3-5 years were exciting, regularly filled with "coming soon" announcements including new features and products. Once the pixel was introduced I feel like Google Fi stalled out. Except for a rebuilding of their service plans maybe 4-5 years ago there's been really no changes. In fact we've actually lost some of the innovative features like multi network access that was what drew me in the first place. I had hoped to be part of a network that continued to innovate. The future feels uncertain.

I have 4 lines on US Mobile...while I love the service, with everything going on over there, and wanting to get the Pixel 9 pro for my wife along with the pixel watch 3 for me, I'm looking to jump ship. I am thinking of just leaving her and my two kids on USM since they're on the dirt cheap plan ($20/month for 2gb/month each) and grabbing a single or double line for me and/or the wife since USM doesn't support watches. What's the best way to do this and cash in on promos? I'd like to wait to upgrade since my P7 pro is fine, so I'm not planning to get the 10pro until next year. So mainly looking to move me and my wife over to the simply unlimited for $80 basically.

Is it only worth moving us both if I upgrade my phone as well?

The best deals tend to be associated with starting new service, porting in a number, and mainly for signing up for the Unlimited+ plan. Usually this is seen with the "device on us" promotions and tends to be for newly-announced phones. There aren't as good of promotions for simply unlimited. For the most part the deals/device promotions for already-in-service customers tend to be equivalent from the perspective of total cost over time (whether simply unlimited or unlimited+)--the difference is google provides higher device credits for unlimited+ plans vs. simply unlimited plans. The amount you end up paying after 2 years is almost the same within about $10 (this is for a single line--math may be slightly different for 2 lines). For example there is/was a promotion for the galaxy fold 6 for $250 in bill credits (for 24 months) for simply unlimited customers, but it's $600 in bill credits (for 24 months) for unlimited+ customers. When taking into account cost of service and cost of devices it's almost the same amount paid at 24 months whether you have simply unlimited (cheaper monthly service) and the lower device credit or unlimited + (more expensive monthly service) and the higher device credit. This may make people who want to take advantage of device promotions every couple years consider opting for the more-expensive unlimited+ option since at the end of 2 years it is basically the same cost, but you get more service options during that time (more data, data-only SIM cards, no limit on wifi hotspot). One weird idiosyncrasy with google fi and smartwatch plans is the watch can only send/receive SMS text messages if the corresponding phone has an internet connection (not the case with calls; if the corresponding phone is offline the watch can still make/receive calls). With other carriers (maybe all of them?) the device gets its own standalone connection for texting regardless of the phone state. I didn't know about this before getting a smartwatch on fi, but in general it doesn't impact me too much because I tend to use whatsapp to message people the most anyway.

Here are several thoughts. I'm sure that others will have more ideas and will correct anything that I got wrong below. Good luck. You mentioned that you're looking at the $80/mo for two users plan. That's called Simply Unlimited. You also mentioned leaving the kids on USM for $20/mo each so that your combined mobile bill will be $120. INSTEAD, save $20/mo by moving everyone to Fi where Simply Unlimited for 4 users is $100/mo. Fi typically has two kinds of device discount offers with very different terms. These are explained in #3, and #4. The "existing user buys a device" offer provides a new phone at a low price and requires that you both remain active on Fi and keep the new device SIM in that device for 120 days. If you move the SIM (even for a second), pause service, or cancel service, the automatic billing system charges the discount to your account. For example, I can buy the $1,900 Galaxy Fold 8 for $1,200 right now. The "new Fi user buys new device" offer has discounts based on service plan ($250 off for Simply Unlimited--which is why this option is bad for you, $600 for Flexible, or $700 for Unlimited Plus). You can either pay for the phone up front and get 24 credits to lower your bill over two years or pay for the device over 2 years with nothing up front; the price is the same either way. Like #3, if you move the SIM, change plans, pause or cancel service, you get forfeit all pending discounts. This method limits your options for 24 months while #3 limits you for only 4 months. (But #3 doesn't have an option for no upfront cost.) The best deals are usually when a new device is announced for pre-order or an old one is being discounted to sell off inventory.

I don't know if this changes anything but we live in Florida and already have good coverage with T-Mobile and the free pixel 7a for all of us would be a good deal if everything goes right.

Edit: thank you for everyone telling me their experience, I'm going to order phones and switch services when my current plan is about to end. :)

Edit2:I'm glad people still post their experiences on this thread. it's been a year with the service and as everyone said if you don't have issues it's good, the phone has also been great after some updates. I hope I never have any problems.

Flex Plan - 0 data being in included at $20 tax exclusive and $10 a gb is ridiculous and antiquated - it should come with 2gb to start at least and cost half if not less per gig for data

I literally pay for a data sim and only use Fi for calls and texts because your data just is not worth it

Simply Unlimited for $50 plus taxes is expensive and in many ways a downgrade in features from Flex...

You will need better prices, US Mobile is sounding really attractive

Apologies for the "Shouting" in the Title.

Google Fi was good 6 years ago when they partnered with T-Mobile/Sprint, as well as US Cellular but they really suck now, and are way overpriced compared to other MVNOs. $20.00/month with zero data included? COME NOW !! Tello is $8.00/"month", $1.00 for 1GB data, $2.00 for 2GB Data (note: for 30 days, not per month so recharge date changes).. Visible (Verizon) is like $30.00 All-In. Mint, so many others.

Also, Fi's "Technical Support" absolutely blows. Over a dozen tickets for one issue because you cannot get transferred to their Tier-2 people or even a Manager. As soon as this issue is fixed we are GONE from Fi. But Google doesn't give a rip. They make their money..

r/GoogleFi on Reddit: Google Fi no longer competitive?
March 5, 2025 -

I'll say from the top that I'm a Google Fi subscriber and have been for several years.

I've started looking around at what else is out there now, due to situational changes. I was unfamiliar with US Mobile until I saw others talking about it and looked into it.

It seems like US Mobile does what Fi used to do, with the network switching. Of course now Fi only uses T-Mobile, which also begs the question of why not just go with T-Mobile if you don't need or want the network switching?

As far as I can tell, the only things that Fi offers over the others for roughly the same price is:

  • more hotspot data with base plans

  • better international pricing

But these things could arguably be cancelled out by perks/features of the other carriers plans. (Ie: free devices for signing up, streaming subscriptions included, cheaper add-ons, etc).

Am I missing something or is there any big reason not to go with T-Mobile, or go with what Fi was supposed to be from the beginning with US Mobile?

I've been a happy Fi customer, but now that I've started looking around, I'm really not sure it's the place to be anymore. Convince me otherwise!
