I ordered a data only SIM from Google Fi.
I've tried to activate a data only SIM in a Pixel 6 and it keeps asking me to transfer my number from my voice phone (Pixel 9a) to the Pixel 6. When I choose "move number later" or "skip" at the different screens, the Google Fi application closes.
I don't have a tablet to activate the data SIM and I don't want to use an eSIM on the Pixel 6 as I'm trying to get the data SIM activated.
If you go to fi.google.com/data it wants you to enter in your "secret code" on the front of the SIM card packaging. The code on the front of my sim data card has two group of 4 numbers separated by a dash and then a word. My word is PEACHES. The grey box does not allow you to enter in numbers. Only letters. When I enter in PEACHES, it says it's incorrect.
I spent 45 mins on the phone with Google Fi support and they were no use.
Yes I know it's meant to be used only in the US, but is it really impossible to activate outside? Not for data but for text (receiving)? What happens if I try to do it? Suppose I switch my phone region to US and use US proxy/VPN (if any of that helps). Or it won't connect to the local carrier for roming? I am sure someone already tried it.
I was using a pixel 3a successfully with Google Fi for a while. I just dropped that in the water and bought a Samsung Galaxy A53.
I installed Google fi, and logged in on the new A53, and it is saying that it wants a sim card. I believe my old pixel 3a was a digital sim card so I can't just swap it over.
What are my options here?
I've had my Pixel 2 for about 4 years. Today, I realized none of my messages were sending and I had no mobile data, so I checked my Fi app. When I went to my account I saw a notice that said I needed to fully activate my plan. This is weird obviously, because I have been using the plan for the last 4 years without any such message or issue. So I clicked to activate, hoping it would fix my message issues, and it said it would take around 2 minutes. It's been 30 minutes and it's still spinning with no message, a notification is constantly up saying "Google Fi is not fully activated, tap to finish activation", and I have no data. I can't contact support because the app is locked behind this "activation" loading. I have an E-Sim (no physical sim card). I already tried deleting the cache on the Fi app and force stopping it, and I can't delete the app.
Anyone have any advice? I need my mobile data for my job tomorrow lol.
EDIT: As people are saying, it seems the culprit is VoLTE and the lack of updates, so our phones no longer work.
Also I just called Google Fi support on someone else's phone (because the app is unusable, the Google browser link just takes you back to the app, and I can't call on my phone because I don't have phone service anymore despite being billed $70 a month still) and after waiting on hold for 30 minutes, I finally got a Google Rep and started telling him my problem, and he hung up on me! I was about to just buy a new phone, but I might have to completely switch providers after this experience. Thanks everyone for their comments and advice so far!
EDIT 2: Google emailed me and provided a solution to all those experiencing this, I will paste it here.
Request you to perform reboot and check if connectivity is restored. If Not proceed to step 2.
Please connect your device to Wi-Fi
Proceed with uninstalling updates to the Fi app
Fi app long press for app info --> check for hamburger menu on the top right ---> uninstall updates OR
Settings -> Apps -> Google Fi -> uninstall updates
Then go through activation in the Fi app. If prompted to take an update, take it, but otherwise don't.
My mom lost her iPhone, so I got her another used iPhone. So I contacted Google Fi Support and tried to transfer number. To activate/transfer number I have to download Google Fi app but to login Apple account so I can download Google Fi app I need to be able to receive text messages!!! What kinda loop?!??!? Any idea??
Hello fellow Redditors!
I recently switched to Google Fi along with three of my friends in a family plan of four. We've all purchased new devices and took advantage of a promotional offer, but there's a bit of a timing issue. Our new phones won't arrive for another two weeks, and I'm wondering if anyone can clarify the activation process.
Here's my question: Can I activate Google Fi on my current phone and then switch to the new one when it arrives, or do I have to continue using T-Mobile until the new phones arrive to ensure we receive the promotional offer?
I'm concerned about potentially missing out on the promotion, so any advice or insights from those who have been in a similar situation would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Update -
Here is what I received from the google fi customer service
"I have checked the details and I would like to share that you must activate the same Fi account used to purchase the phone.
And as per the promotion terms and conditions you should be a new Google Fi customer, it means your Fi services should not be activated otherwise it will count you as an existing customer and the promotion will be cancelled."
