Is Google Fi a better deal than T-Mobile?
Does Google Fi use T-Mobile Towers?
What are the disadvantages of Google Fi?
Hello! So, here's the tl;dr in bullets
Currently have T-Mobile Veteran Plan, so it's about $50/mo for one unlimited line
Using an iPhone 12 mini, planning to upgrade to a Google Pixel 8a
Currently living in Colorado, Denver area
Not an international traveler-- want to be one day but I've been saying that for like 10 years
I do go hiking/bouldering in the mountains, so service can sometimes be spotty with T-Mobile as I get further West of Denver
Is Google Fi better all around in 2024 or are they much of the same? I don't have any real complaints with T-Mobile other than the very occasional deadzone or poor service in some basements. However, one of the reasons I was interested in the phone upgrade is because I read that Google Fi has a feature where it swaps between nearby cell towers for the best service, however this feature isn't available on Apple phones at this time (or at least not my model)
Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!
Is there any reason why I should NOT leave Fi? I have Google1, so I can still get my premium support from there. I believe that phone/sms backup is also handled by Google1. The scam call screener, the new feature about being on hold, and similar features appear to be Google Assistant based. My Photos unlimited storage at compressed size is due to my Pixel.
I cannot seem to find a single service or feature that is offered specifically because I use Fi.
I have been a long-time customer of Fi (over 5 years) with no complaints whatsoever. My needs are very simple; I rarely use even 2.5gb of data per month, I use a Supcase UB Pro so never break my phone. I just need to make and receive calls, and fast data is nice but not a requirement. Fi suits me just fine.
However, I recently got married and my partner not only has an iPhone, but is heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem with 2 separate businesses he owns. We are both mid-30's and are rather stuck in our individual ways. There is no way he is going to switch to Android unless hell freezes over.
We would like to consolidate our lives so are considering switching to T-Mobile. Honestly, the price is slightly higher but I would go with the Magenta plan, so the extra $10/mo than what we pay separately is not an issue.
I don't want to leave Fi, but I am struggling to find a reason why I shouldn't. $10/mo is not compelling. Is there something I am missing or misunderstanding about the various and random features that I would end up losing?
GoogleFi was originally using Sprint & T-Mobile networks, whichever was stronger where you were at. With Sprint fully gone, how is GoogleFi different from T-Mobile?
Is it just the extras that T-Mobile included (Hulu/Netflix, etc)? Or is there actually a coverage/network difference?
