Google is a cool thing to have on your résumé, but Google does tech so differently from everywhere else that you will have to relearn a lot when you change jobs. So if you are a good engineer and constantly learning, you’ll be fine. If you get too comfortable at Google, you may have a hard time leaving. I would recommend sticking it around and working hard enough at least to get to L4… or if it’s taking too long to get to L4, switch companies then. You may feel very differently at that point. 5 months is a very short time. More on reddit.com

I am a 3rd year engineering student in India having done few coding adventures and two small game dev projects using Unity and C#. I need guidance on how to make it into Google's game dev team that makes those mini games, There is no mention of this role anywhere on the internet so I am looking for insider information as i heard Google offices have verticals for different apps so I am sure there is one for its doodles and games.

Has anyone here worked at Google in game development or related fields?
What skills/experience should I focus on?
Any tips for networking with Google game devs?

Hey everyone!

I recently graduated with a degree in CS, and I have been lucky enough to get a SWE job at Google.
I have been working at G for about 5 months now, and while I love my job and feel very lucky, I still have a dream about working in game dev (for companies like Rockstar Games, Epic Games, Ubisoft, etc.).

I am currently an Android dev, and I was wondering if any of you have any tips for how I can (in some years) move from being a 'regular' SWE to a game dev. Does Google help at all on my resume? How can I prepare?

I think your best bet is side projects, having google on resume definitely can get your foot through the door, but you will still need to have more ''relevant'' experience as well which would be some small side project games or perhaps less medium-larger ones(don't recommend larger ones as it's preferable to have something finished. So my recommendation would be to continue at google for atleast a year more(as long as it's not miserable for you) and do some side projects/learning on the side and then while still working apply to the companies you mentioned showcasing those side project games
