Work-wise, it’s likely that your experience would be closer to the in-person experience since we are allowed to work on internal projects next year. Everything else, we were all bummed for sure because we had expectations and it all became pixels on a screen sent from an office you were supposed to be in. You will have a great time though - there’s intern events/talks all days of the work week, you’ll be leaving the internship with at least one new friend - your podmate, you’re gonna stare at your first email from Sundar for a good 10 minutes. I received a return offer, the general consensus is that as long as you do your best, don’t do anything stupid and listen to your hosts, there really shouldn’t be any surprises especially for STEP -> SWE conversion. I’m interning at Google this summer and I’m debating whether I should take my internship remote and wfh or relocate to Sunnyvale, CA. I’ve heard transportation in Sunnyvale is rough and there isn’t much to do especially as a college aged kid in Sunnyvale. 3rd interview: yes, it's a tiebreaker. You'll be rejected if the feedback from this interview is negative. Delays: they're expected at this point. Not only did they interview more students than usual, but Q4 is also notorious for delays due to everyone scrambling to check in changes before the freezes, annual reviews, planning for next year, and the upcoming holidays. Since you can't enter project matching until the hiring committee re-reviews your packet with the 3rd interview's feedback, these delays will unfortunately affect your project matching experience. As a fully remote employee, I'd encourage you to explore the perks of working from home.
That being said, since you're an intern, I think being in person would increase your chances at a return offer, which you should be targeting. Once you do get the offer, move to being remote.

"[Google] will be shifting its summer internship program to an entirely online experience, a result of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Candidates will be able to attend everything remotely, with many of the usual session replaced with digital versions. Google's leadership team plans to host virtual versions of its traditional "brown bag lunches," and interns will be able to attend various networking events online.
All of the usual internship programs will also move forward in the online format, though it means 2020's interns won't get to make use of the games rooms, free food, or Mountain View's campus bikes. They will still be compensated, however."
What are your thoughts on this? I heard that a significant number of Google internships were cancelled, likely due to having to shift gears to being entirely online, which limits the internships hosts are able to support.

Have interns gotten an email about this yet? I haven’t, so I’m wondering if it only applies to undergrad interns, only to the CA offices, etc. Edit: Got the email. It seems to apply globally, to all types of interns.
