r/GoogleMyBusiness on Reddit: How do you get your service-based business on Google's map as an actual location without getting suspended?
August 21, 2024 -

I see multiple pressure washing companies on google in my area that are obviously service based that go to the customer, but their home address is a red pin on google's map pack. If you see their google street, they have no permanent signage or indication that their homes are also open to the public. From what i can tell this should be grounds for suspension by google.

And It's kind of unfair because if you make a google my business for a proximity area and not a brick and mortar location, it wont pop up on google maps as a red pin and means less people are likely to see your business.

I'm not worried about people seeing my home address if it means more chances of people seeing my business. But how can you even have a service based business on google maps without suspension like a lot of these businesses?

I understand how frustrating it can be to see other service-based businesses show up on Google Maps with a red pin when they technically operate out of a home address. While it may look unfair, there are legitimate ways to set up a Google Business Profile, if you’re a service-based business. Below are a few key points and best practices you should keep in mind to avoid suspension and keep Google happy: Below is a direct reference to Google’s guidelines regarding service-area businesses and displaying an address in Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business). The official help article is found here: Google Business Profile Guidelines for Service-Area Businesses . Key Points from the Guidelines Service-Area Businesses (SABs): Businesses that visit or deliver goods/services to customers at their location. Examples include plumbers, home cleaning companies, landscaping, pest control, and most service-based providers that work remotely at a customer’s property or job site. Hiding Your Address: If you do not serve customers at your listed address (i.e., you don’t have a publicly accessible storefront or consistent signage), you must set your Business Profile to “Service-Area Business” and remove/hide your address. Google specifically states that if your address is used solely for receiving mail or isn’t staffed during stated business hours, it should not be listed. When You Can Display Your Address: If your location is truly a brick-and-mortar with regular business hours, or if you have an office or storefront where customers can walk in or meet by appointment, you may display your address. You need to ensure that the address you display is staffed or available for customer visits during the hours listed on your profile.
