I find this mind-boggling.
You can use Google Pay to pay for things online. By this I mean either on a desktop PC while logged into your Google account (maybe only in Chrome?) or on a phone to pay for things in other apps (e.g. eBay) or in the browser.
But there seems to be absolutely no record of these transactions of any kind that is kept and presented by Google. In other words, as far as I can see (and I've discussed this with Google support via chat too), the only way to see these transactions is to login to my individual credit card accounts and look for them there.
Google does not allow me to see the transactions anywhere. They're not emailed to me, not texted, not presented in the Google Pay app (old or new), and not available on the Google Pay site.
Is this true? Does anyone else find it bonkers?
It's especially frustrating if you are trying to research past transactions and you don't remember which card you used. So you have to login to every card site to search? And does this method of using Google Pay use "virtual card numbers" that hide your actual card number from the merchant? There is like zero documentation of this. When I look at the transaction history with (at least some) merchants via their own apps where I used Google Pay, the transaction payment method just says "Google Pay". Doesn't provide any way to know which card I used there either.
Note: this does not apply to payment in person at a physical merchant using a physical credit card terminal and NFC tap-and-pay, where apparently those transactions are visible in the app (at least for some time, which may vary by card issuer)
By the way, is there a name for this kind of online use of Google Pay to distinguish it from the tap-and-pay use? Or do we call them both "Google Pay" even though they seem very distinct.
