I just spent an hour trying to do something I assumed would be easy. Accessing Google Photos via Google Drive. I'm now reading that it's not possible, but hoping there's a workaround.
Goal is to easily find/select photos from within apps: Word, Outlook, Whatsapp, Messenger. Currently I'm going to Google Photos web, downloading photos, back to the app, inserting/attaching. I don't need local backup, streaming is fine. Any way to do this?

Google never really gave a proper “Photos shows up as a normal folder” option again after they killed the Drive integration, so Word/Outlook/etc won’t see your library like they would a disk. The only workaround I’ve seen hold up (and yeah, this thread’s been around a while) is: periodically dump Photos into Google Drive (Takeout-to-Drive works, just watch the extra space/duplicates), then mount Drive locally and attach from there. I mount Drive in Explorer/Finder with CloudMounter so it’s just another drive letter/folder when an app opens the file picker.

I recently got married in September and I'm planning to get my wedding photos any day now. I don't plan on printing out everything or think I see the need to download everything to a flash drive with online storage being so popular.
My question is, should I create a folder in Google Drive and backup everything there, or should I just use Google Photos and create an album to store everything?

You should also have archival prints made of your favorite shots because physical prints are not subject to vicissitudes of tech change. There are papers written about prints as the most dependable preservation of images. Good luck
