Check the "quality" in which you are backing up to Google Photos. These a$$holes are so desperate for all of us to reach our limit so that we can start paying them for cloud storage that they have switched the "original quality" as the default option for uploading/backing up instead of the "reduced quality to save space" that was previously the default. Since storage is measured for each individual account, creating a second Google account means it will have nothing on it (15GB free). Just make sure you turn off the auto backup thing or else it might start uploading all your stuff from your phone onto that second account. More on reddit.com

Hi everyone. Like a fool, I had been recording videos in 4k for almost a year, and it's completed filled up my Google photos storage (I pay for 200gb).
What should I do?
I downloaded/exported every photo and video from that period, so maybe I could just delete all of them from my Google photos to free up space.
Ideally though I'd like to keep them backed up in Google photos, is there any way to compress them within Google photos whilst keeping the original resolution on my phone?
Or do you have any other ideas? Thanks!

Use Google Takeout and export all of your photos and videos. Put them on an external hard drive, as well as in a folder on your computer as well. After that just start deleting everything in your Google Photos account. I personally would just fork over the $9.99 for a TB of storage.

You're just making things more difficult on yourself to organize and make sure you don't lose access to the accounts or have them disabled due to inactivity. If you can't afford more storage space, stop backing up your photos, and start removing them from the backup using the Google Photos website (ensure backup is disabled from the app first). Never empty trash as it will allow you to recover from many common mistakes, and trash doesn't count against your account quota.
