Aurora Store is fine. The concern is rather over the top unless you are someone likely to be targeted by hackers. What Aurora does is fetch apk files from Google's servers to then download and install. The complaint about this is that it doesn't independently verify these files, so if someone was executing what's called a 'man in the middle' attack on your device they could essentially intervene in the process and send some malware along with the file. For most users I think this is a very marginal concern. Frankly, this has to do with some of the Graphene community's mania for extreme security provisions, above priorities like privacy and actually degoogling, to the point of being quite relaxed about trusting Google services. Similar applies with F-Droid. For 99% of users there really are no serious security concerns. Play Store will collect a lot of information about your device when you install and update apps. It also requires Play Services to be installed in order to work- and this is the part of an Android OS probably responsible for most data collection (this is minimised on the Graphene sandboxed version, but that's irrelevant if you don't have Graphene).
