I really like how simple and free the Google podcast app is. I like that it auto downloads and it is very quick and easy to use.
I have tried two other podcasts apps and they either don't have the podcast I'm looking for or they inundate my phone with notifications and download a bunch of podcasts I have no interest in and I'm not subscribed to.
Now that Google podcast is going away, what is the best app to use? I'm looking for simple, diverse, free, and allows downloads.

Android's free and open source Antennapod. similar 'single queue' (with robust sorting options) set up along with an incoming 'inbox'. can also orgnaise subscriptions into tag folders. can hide parts of the UI you don't want and specify your download conditons. can pick which types of notifications you get. ad free and can never 'shut down'. gives listening time stats whenever you want (rather than waiting for a once a year gimmick) can even use it on local folder's of mp3s.

There are only a couples things that seem to be basic features for a podcast player. 1) Selection and 2) speed controls. The Podcast App has selection but you can only listen at normal speeds. I am a regular listener of podcasts and I usually prefer to listen at 1.5x speed.
